I’ve been told the barber only works in even seconds. So a 3.8 is actually worse than a 3.0 because they get the same damage multiplier but the first takes longer. Is that right? Does that mean I’m looking for 4.0 seconds or bust?
Don’t know where you got your info from but I have 2.1 and 3.1 barbers and they both work fine. I prefer 2.1 for my FO sorc though.
Right, but my question is whether your 3.1 is better or worse than a 3.9 from a sheer damage (not speed farming standpoint).
I have a 3.9 Barber and went to a 3.1. The max damage isn’t as much, but it does indeed fire faster. I’m looking for a 2 sec now. My playstyle definitely prefers the smaller window.
“I’ve been told the barber only works in even seconds.”
I was replying to this statement saying it is NOT TRUE. It does NOT work only in even seconds. Eg. My 2.1 and 3.1 versions are NOT even seconds.
To answer your followup question it depends on your build I think. If I use the 3.1 version on my FO sorc (with ice shards as secondary) mobs take too long to die.
In general I think the longer the timer the more it has to wait to explode with the collected damage. So if it procs sooner and the mob just dies outright you get the illusion that lower level versions do more damage. However how I think the higher timer versions collect more damage.
It’s probably more noticeable on mobs with huge hitpoints like end dungeon bosses.
Which barber you use is almost entirely dependent on how consistently and how long you can keep minions in vulnerable.
The basic idea is, you need barber to pop before vulnerable expires, otherwise you lose a tone of damage.
If you play a class that has crappy options to make minions vulnerable, like sorceress, then you are likely reliant on the exploit glyph to make minions vulnerable, and that glyph lasts 3 seconds, so that means you need a sub 3s barber.
Otherwise, if you can keep minions and bosses constantly vulnerable with ease, say like druid, you can go for the full 4s barber and enjoy the extra damage, albeit additional latency.
Other than vulnerable, the only other consideration is kill speed for speed farming. Once you account for both those factors take the longest barber you can get.
That is not how Exploit Glyph work on Sorc…
Oh wow, holy mother. I never played sorc, and I didn’t realize they never gave sorc a “real” exploit glyph. WOW. How??? So what the hell, how do sorc vuln. targets?
Yeah its weird the Glyphs are not the same for all Classes…
Ice Shards
Frost Nova
Frozen Orb
Ice Blades
Thats about it!
Yeah, I’m currently rocking a 3.7 as a BS necro and have wondered if I would be better at a lower time. I have a 3 and I’d have to check but several 2.? Can’t recall.
It really doesn’t bother me too much in that I normally hit mobs hard enough to end them. And when the duration does make itself noticeable like in boss fights, I actually want that extra multiplier. If that makes sense.
Curious to see where this thread goes.
