Idea for an Endgame "Final Boss"

I often ask myself, what is the point of playing this game over and over, only to play the same reskinned echo/torment bosses and what I’m assuming is the final Torment 4 Lilith…
If Blizzard could just create 1 final boss above Lilith, so very difficult that only the best players reach it, that would at least keep the “carrot on the stick” for most people playing the game. And that boss (Baal, Diablo, whatever) dropping a super rare item.
I feel like when I finally beat T4 Lilith, there will be nothing left. Which kind of makes me not want to play at all. At least in D2, you could replay the campaign at very hard difficulties. I think even D3 has that. But D4 does not.
By Blizzard creating just one NEW super hard boss fight (and not Uber or Tormented or reskinned lazy stuff), it would create a memorable moment and something to tell friends about. It would give the endgame more depth and people like me who like the campaign a reason to play the endgame.
To further the longevity, beating that final boss could open up D4 campaign replay at a super high difficulty level, one that most people wouldn’t get past (unless they play as Spiritborn lol).

Given the backlash over Uber Lilith( even till this season), I don’t think that’s going to happen. The evidence is we’re not getting an Uber Mephisto Wolf in the expansion. Your idea is cool, but I just can’t see it happening.

For me its about the enjoyment of moment to moment gameplay in combination of having those longer term goals. I.E is a build is fun to play I want to play it… in much the same way a car is fun to take around a race track, I want to take a build from the starting line to the finish line.

Its nice when there are more tracks, track conditions mods etc to choose from as that adds longevity, its also really really cool whent there are different cars to race (builds to play). Now if only they could tie all that into longer term goals, like paragon 300 would be a fine goal to strive towards IF there were fun pathways to get there other than grind pit.

How about if every class had a season journey you could complete, or challenges which gave massive one off XP. More horizontal play less vertical is the trick to good ARPGs IMO.

Good analogy to racing. I used to play racing games, also eventually feeling like, what’s the point? I’ve reached first place, every car unlocked, etc.
It really is about the journey, but I think it wouldn’t be difficult for devs to extend the lifespan of the journey by adding 1 simple thing, a very difficult NEW boss. Even better if they unlocked campaign replay.

I think citadel has a lot of potential. I really disagree with them “forcing” group play and would like to see them extend it with more wings, variation/randomisation and SOLO PROGRESSION (with group optional).

Puzzle based bosses where you actually have to do things other than just spam right click on a target are fun.

It seems if it’s challenging and people can’t do it the first try it’s to hard lol, but that’s what the majority of the community wants I guess

How hard is it for them to make a completely new boss fight? Not Uber. A new Baal or some kind of epic creature like Astaroth, that you can only do at the highest difficulty (no copy pasting it into further Echo or Torments, just 1 final boss). 3D modelers, some voice fx, battle dynamics, loot… seems like that would be easier to create than all the other things they’ve tried.

Creating a new final boss isn’t the hard part—it’s the backlash from players about Uber Lilith’s difficulty. Just take a look at the forums; there are countless threads on this topic. Personally, I don’t mind Lilith’s challenge since I grew up on tough arcade games like 1947, but players have a point. In a Diablo-style ARPG, you should feel powerful, whereas super-hard bosses fit more naturally in Souls-like games.

For some players, the new final boss you mentioned is already in the game: the Dark Citadel boss. We might even see additional wings in the Dark Citadel, featuring iconic enemies from past Diablo games.

I will add one more thing, since when and who came up with the lame and stupid concept of “echos” aka a bullet sponge fart demon with stupid mechanics… simply nothing to do with the lore and btarded…

Let me guess pink haired people on the suicide watch list…

Not for D4 when majority players were poisoned by Blizzard’s mythic target farming system. When they look at a boss, they only see a pile of boss mats. :upside_down_face:

T4 Lilith isn’t actually hard, the fight just incorporates all of WoW’s worst raid mechanics and it’s incredibly annoying to progress.

The correct way to play it is also to cheese it and skip all of the mechanics, which is another bad holdover from WoW raid design.

With the current balance  That would just exclude “EVERYONE” who is not playing “THE” Meta build.

That’s actually one thing that surprised me with this xpac…no new Uber, World, or T bosses…even though we fought Meph in the campaign, still no new bosses. Big disappointment.

Yeah I didn’t buy the xpac, I could already tell they dropped the ball. What a shame and wasted opportunity.
