I won't be buying future D4 content

Blizzard got my money for D4, but I won’t be buying any paid content that might be released in the future (Expansion Packs, new classes, etc).

I spent $210 (USD), buying D4 for myself and my 2 kids. I thought it would be a great way for the 3 of us to have a fun time together over summer school break.

My kids haven’t yet been able to play, so I have played single player for a while. My biggest complaint is how ridiculously easy the Campaign was, which made it extremely boring. I played on WT2, hardly ever needed to drink a health potion, except with some Boss fights, and only died in extremely rare circumstances.

I went through the Main Quests only, so that I could unlock WT3 as fast as possible, and THEN go back and do side quests and stuff, hoping that at least on WT3 the challenge might start to get good. So, I beat the Main Quest line and unlocked WT3 at level 48 Unfortunately, I found that WT3 isn’t much more challenging than WT2.

WT3’s Open World difficulty doesn’t seem to be all that more difficult. At first, the “World Level” was 5 levels higher than mine (I was level 48, and the World Level was 53), and I thought maybe that would make the game finally fun, but unfortunately our levels eventually “balanced out with each other” and now I am level 56 and the World Level is equal to mine at 56. Now it’s back to being too easy.

I have been doing Tree Of Life events and Nightmare Dungeons, but they are too easy also. Zero challenge, zero fun, in my opinion.

Many people are saying that the “real” game doesn’t start until after you beat the Campaign. But, why should it have been like that? Why couldn’t the Campaign have been an engaging part of the game, fun and enjoyable, and THEN have an “Adventure Mode” afterwards? Why instead have the Main Questline be something to “get through fast”?

Additionally, the really sad part about it, is that the Cinematics were really good, and (for the first time in Diablo history, IMO) the storyline was somewhat engaging. All the other Diablo games’ storylines were pretty weak, but D4’s was pretty good. But, after the great cinematics would end, I’d end up going back to a relatively easy Boss fight. Not very fun.

But, my BIGGEST complaint so far has to be the lack of level scaling in regards to grouping up, partying, in Multiplayer.

With all the other Diablo games, the difficulty of the game increased with the number of players in the party. Apparently, not so with D4. If there is any scaling there, it’s almost unnoticeable.

My son and I played yesterday for the first time. We created new characters and fired up. It was horrible. AS IF SINGLE PLAYER WASN’T EASY ENOUGH, THE CAMPAIGN IN MULTIPLAYER/PARTY/GROUP WAS A COMPLETE JOKE! Our “2-player team” was annihilating everything (yes it was in WT2)

Think about it: there are two of us fighting the monsters, not just one, so if the monsters are the same toughness as in single player, and single player is already easy, then a Party is going to be EVEN MORE easy, which it was.

I felt so bad for my son, who was sitting there, constantly yawning, completely bored with how easy it was. He wasn’t having any fun, and neither was I. What a waste.

To add insult to injury, I also bought the game for my daughter who hasn’t yet played. The 3 of us are going to give it a try tonight, but I cringe at the thought of how much easier a 3-player party will be.

Do I have to tell my kids, “oh yeah sorry, the Main Quest line is going to suck. The cinematics are fantastic, and the storyline is pretty good, but the gameplay will be boringly easy. Maybe after we get through it the game can start to be fun.” Is that what I am supposed to tell them? Horrible.

For a game that was relatively expensive, I think I deserved to be able to enjoy THE ENTIRE game with my kids, not just endgame content.

So, Blizzard, yes you got my money for D4. Congratulations. In truth, it’s partly my fault, I should have held off buying the game for my kids, until I tried it out myself, and then I could have made a more informed decision. But, the nice, flashy new graphics, and the lure of new content suckered me into buying 3 copies of the game. Blizzard got my money, but won’t get any more.

I won’t be buying any future content for D4, unless some MAJOR changes happen in future patches/updates. Here are the two biggest things I ask for:

  • WT3 and WT4 unlocked right from level 1 – create WT5 and WT6 to replace. Or maybe just a general increase to the game’s difficulty overall. I don’t know, maybe give all monsters in the game a 30% boost to their health and damage? Something!
  • Add/Increase party scaling, similar to other Diablo games, AT LEAST in areas of the game that aren’t part of the Open World (dungeons, main quest lines, side quests). The difficulty of the game should increase for each additional player in a party!

Without these types if changes, I won’t be spending any more money towards Diablo IV future content.

The campaign isn’t meant to be difficult.

Exactly. It is meant to see the story and that is it.

That’s fine.

I’ll buy the expansions personnally because it’s nearly guaranteed they will add new classes and more story.

Agree that difficulty should be upped on everything, campaign specially bosses seems to be one of the weakest low hanging fruit right now. World bosses dying in 20seconds on WT4…

You mean WT2 is easy? who would have guessed.

I just wanted to confirm that monster difficulty is increased when you’re playing in a party. Making them more difficult isn’t as easy as simply increasing their stats, because that doesn’t play well with certain builds.

For example, I like to use the Barbarian skill Death Blow. Death Blow has a hefty 15 second cooldown but does significant damage. What makes it worth using is that the cooldown resets if you kill a target with it, meaning the skill is instantly usable again.

When playing alone this skill works well, but in a group the skill is much more underwhelming because mob health apparently scales up when you’re in a party. So, when solo you’re able to use Deathblow constantly, but more often than not it’s stuck on cooldown when you’re in a group.

This is just an example, but hopefully you can see how some of these systems can begin to break down when mob stats are buffed to challenge teams. You also need to keep in mind that some people group up because they’re looking to make things easier. I am like you in that I group up not to make things easier, but to experience a game with someone I want to be playing that game with. And, yes, it’s nice when grouping up doesn’t trivialize the content… but I view that as the exception rather than the rule.

Last week I thought everything was too hard and impossible to beat except for meta builds… now it’s too easy??

I can’t keep up with the QQing.

I may not either if they don’t give an option for PC player to separate from platform players so we can have a pub chat, group find etc. As well as make the features actually work for PC players like being able to turn off cross-platform play.
Make a view screen larger for PC players.
Not retard PC’s by forcing whatever Xbox and PlayStation wants or doesn’t want or to accommodate other platforms in the works like mobile. I don’t want to pay for these features with my PC purchase.

Great story …so why exactly should we care about what are you going to do or not do with your money?

Unless you want to send me some via paypal FF I dont care.

I think this game is pretty easy too. D2 was harder, especially in hell with non-meta builds. I think it’s a weird flex when d3-4 zoomers try to tell us how easy d2 is when they clearly never even touched it. D4 isn’t hard by any means.

Good for you OP, there are much better games out there worth playing. The D4 experience was like watching the final season of Game of Thrones.

You know it isn’t getting any better and you want to believe it’ll come together and make sense, and be worth it… but it doesn’t and you feel like a fool for being strung along the whole time.

D2 wasn’t hard because it was actually difficult though, the game was pretty basic and there was next to no mechanics in boss fights. It was “hard” because the systems in place were nonsense.
Complete immunities made builds worthless in hell. Multi-immune mobs are just not fun. There isn’t a counter it’s just “oops, can’t kill that thing, run away, die, or be a paladin time”
Bored.
For clarity, I’m not arguing D4 is difficult, it’s fairly easy most of the time. The only “difficulty” they throw at you is stuff like Uber Lilith spawning Bloods outside of the damned arena while you’re a melee build.
Also bored.

Loved immunities, you had to use your brain in your build to incorporate one or more damage source and do a bit of theorycrafting to overcome that obstacle. They give you a lot of tools to deal with them too. Use your mercenary, go dual or even tri-elemental build with your skills, get a resistance stripping aura, keep a tri elemental weapon on your weapon swap. It also promotes group and team play. Plan your builds accordingly with your friends so you don’t have too much elemental overlap and you can have some good synergy to deal with them. Hard disagree, immunities were good for the game. It also kept players from stacking all their skill points on synergies and one damage source until you had end game items that could strip immunities.

I do agree that perhaps, multi-immune mobs shouldn’t be a thing. Those can be frustrating. But again, they do promote group play with friends.

I bet you don’t have play a fire sorcerer, but probably a strong druid or something. Can you edit and say what class you have used, what build?

We totally need to get more class specs viable, completely agree with that. It’s why I’ve shelved my sorcerer for now, got bored with ice shards, frost nova, fire shield, and frost shield.

If you try to go off meta you get completely punished. It doesn’t feel good.

But why? Why should the Campaign not be difficult? Why should it be meant to see the story and that’s it? Is that the way you think it SHOULD be? Really? How about, instead, the D4 Campaign be fun and challenging for those who might have wanted an engaging Campaign, but there is a also a “Cutscene Only” option for you two, where you can just see the story and jump right into the Endgame material? Which would you two people choose? I am curious…

Ok? WT2 is easy. And? Should the Campaign have been limited to an easy WT2? The topic was that the Campaign was too easy, not that WT2 is easy.

The people who tout HC are so full of $#!+… They try to make people think that HC is challenging. It isn’t. I have played HC and it isn’t challenging at all. It is just as easy as non-HC. The monsters are just as easy. The bosses are just as easy. HC players who think they are better than non-HC players, aren’t better at all. They are playing as easy of a game as everyone else. The only difference is that HC relies purely on one thing: luck. And NOTHING else. Luck that you don’t have a power outage on your street. Luck that you have a stable ISP. Luck that you don’t get a message on your screen saying, “You have been logged out due to an unexpected server issue.”

I played HC, and when I lost my character due to these issues (bad luck) I stopped playing HC. I don’t want to play a game mode that relies PURELY on luck to win/lose, which is all that HC is.

Thank you. I did play with my two kids tonight, and it did in fact seem like there was SOME monster difficulty increase. But not much. The boss fights were even less challenging than when I played it single player.

Because we can vote with our money. We can vote with our wallets and our bank accounts. We can influence Blizzard better by refusing to give them our money if we don’t like their product.

Not enough people do this. They come to these forums and complain and complain, but when Blizzard comes out with a new product, they whip out their credit cards and happily send Blizzard more money, but then come back to these forums with more complaints! Stop! As long as people buy whatever product Blizzard puts out, Blizzard will put out whatever it wants, regardless of whether or not it’s what the PLAYERS want.

Influence Blizzard to come out with a better product by refusing to purchase future products if you are not happy with what Blizzard is producing.

I played Necromancer. I enjoyed Necromancer in D2 and D3, and so I tried it out in D4. Summoning up creatures is a fun part of any RPG for me.

I have no idea what builds are good or bad. I didn’t do any “research”. I just started up the game and played.

I had Skeletons, Mages, Golem, with Bone Spikes, Bone Spear, Blood Mist, Army of the Dead, and Kalan’s Edict, in the beginning (no curses), only switching things up when Legendary items started dropping.

Anyways, I hope Blizzard does add in options for more challenging gameplay (maybe WT3 and WT4 unlocked right from 1st level, and possibly the creation of WT5 and WT6 to take their places). The future of whether or not I buy future D4 products depends on it!

Yep, playing a necro summoner is always easy, in any game I know, even in POE. You summon an army and this army will fight for you. That’s a summoner, how hard can be to play a summoner? Try to play something more challenging, like a druid, a barbarian, a sorcerer or a rogue. I never play necro summoner for that, because you don’t play, it’s your minions that play.

Did you know, that they have it shown that WT1 is easy for those that are mainly after the story?
It’s almost like they made WT2 to ramp up the difficulty for a challenge. And yet, it “still” isnt meant to be difficult? Then why offer it?
