I watched the QA with DM and Ghazzy with Johnathan Rogers and the whole other game live stream

I just want to ask you all hyping over this other game coming out a few questions. Now that I’ve personally learned some stuff from watching the stream.

  1. Do you guys know there is death penalty for XP loss ? This is present in game and likely will be modified to only happen in late game, unsure what the final is but death penalty is a thing over there

  2. there are literally layers within layers within layers within layer within layers of mechanism in gearing, systems, skills etc are you all really hyping over that ?

  3. The end game Atlas system is pretty cool, I can see a lot of potential there but do you know you can brick your map ? literally if you die I think 4 times in a roll you can brick all the maps around you and you won’t be able to proceed further. Your atlas has to reset. And you only get 1 try per map, if you die it is over. (if you think bricking a piece of gear is bad in D4, try bricking a whole game mode over there LOL)

  4. Bosses are unforgiving, if you die you respawn at a check point and there are many 1 shot deaths everywhere think S0 and S1 Lilith for example. Which is massively frowned upon by D4 community , even to this day Lilith fight is still garbage to many.

  5. You cannot do big dmg numbers over there, there is no dopamine from that factor. And the gearing and loot system has again layers and layers of layers of mechanism you can do to alter it and change it and add to it whatever i can’t even name all of things you can do.

are you guys really into a game like that ? How is that more simpler than “the other game 1” ? I think #2 is just as complex and unattractive…

I agree ascendencies are nice, I love the idea of sub classes where a main class can transform into something else. WoW had some similar too I think D4 could use some like that but everything else, oh god I hope it never will come to D4

I imagine dying is only if you are not prepared/attempting content for the first time at best. I’ve had to stop myself today after getting ascendancy in the 1st one and my only complaint is gem socket colors.

But yes that sounds fantastic opposed to:

Got glyphs max? Y-See below. N-Run pit.

Need mats? Run UC refinement tribute or IH.
Hit your masterworks? Y-Back to pits for xp. N-Repeat

Need uniques from bosses? Run UC titans tribute and spend all mercenary currency on boss summon mats. Kill bosses.
Get a 1 GA max unique power you wanted? Y-see mats section, then run pits for xp. N-Repeat.

Ready to settle with what you got? Run pits for xp!

And I actually think the UC/Boss ladder cycle is a good thing here, but saddle up if you want a desirable 2+ GA unique with the max power. Unless you’re just cosmically lucky.

I mean yea D4 needs more work and can use a lot of improvement but, man… The other game is just…Almost self inflicting mental pain LOL

Everything you have said here is not an issue at all. Most importantly, there is depth to characters (and more) and variety within the content to experience, so yes, I am willing to give PoE 2 a try when I have never really got into PoE 1 at all. Those are the two most important things that D4 is missing, and has not even been attempted to fix since launch.

well im glad those are non-issues for you lol

You prob be happy over there then best of luck !

It’s not that POE2 is a competitor for D4 players but that threatening to leave D4 for POE2 is the equivalent of the internet middle finger at the devs by unhappy customers.

certainly truth to that…

I mean, it is cool to hype for a new game, I mean D4 launch was a hype too. But in reality I think it is important to know what you really want and about to step into lol

Expressing displeasure over 1 game is one thing, but overdosing on Copium / Hopium is another

The way I see things is as long as I’m able to have an enjoyable experience within the first hour of gameplay and the game is straightforward enough at that point for it to be enjoyable, then I would definitely welcome more complexity down the road.

As it seems to me right now, the game is pretty simple in the beginning without all of these mechanics until later(endgame?). Ultimately, we will have to try it ourselves and see how it feels. But, if GGG did their job correctly and they introduce their systems in a correct pace, then I think we wouldn’t have anything to be “scared” of.

As sure as this thread will be deleted by morning, that game is a direct competitor to D4. Blizzard has been resting a little too easy, putting out a bare minimum of content and they should absolutely take this as a warning sign that they need to step it up and improve their game.

you would never know until you try… game is free anyways why not.

But the other game has veterans that PLAY for those complexity and no matter how simple or QOL the game GGG can give , it will NEED to be at certain level of depth and complexity to please the core audience, jsut know that

Well a vast majority of players in these pipelines churn games very regularly. Most people who bought D4 probably didn’t know what it was to be honest. Those who knew what to expect aren’t as embittered. Same with POE2; most of those claiming they’re going over have never played POE1 for more than a few seconds, relatively speaking, but I was one of the first (God I feel old saying that) but anyway they’ll jump on the ship just to jump off.

Only Hell Divers 2 is forever.

Agreed, POE2 is most definitely a direct competitor to D4. No matter how people keep saying it’s not to avoid the comparison.

I would agree with you fully on that lol…

The games are fundamentally different to such an extreme that it’s just not something to worry about. This is what I mean by the internet equivalent thing I said earlier; you’re trying to suggest this has a pokey stick effect towards this game but iso-ARPGs that have different cores do not compete for anyone at all.

It’s either A, B or both and in most cases it’s A or B. If you like Diablo at all you’ll loathe POE and vice versa.

Yea both game will survive and do well because the core audience is really different I cannot stress this enough times. Both game will have their player base and then some…

end of story no game will die over the other period.

Exactly. We will never know until we try.

In terms of the veterans you’re saying, I get it but ultimately it’s a different game with a broader target audience so I expect lots of variety of players, not just POE veterans playing the game. Which means there’s going to be lots of pushback from different crowds of the playerbase. It’s going to be quite interesting to see how’s it going to pan out.

The last but not least thing I’d like to add is that GGG developers are veterans in the genre and they have a vision. The complete opposite of the D4 team.

I understand and I agree D4 do have a lot of work ahead of them and the devs I am sure are there to improve things. Just the improvement part is relative to personal expectations right ?

D4 have added many game modes, not judging how fun or good they are but, they were added since launch. Sure, if one had high expectation of D4 they might be disappointed that was not delivered since S0, but… what I come to appreciate is actually the simplicity that the game has to offer .

What D4 needs to work on is how to make a worthy and rewarding end game loop that respect a players time, and at the same time keeping the simplicity philosophy in designing all their UI and UX systems.

The issue is that this game only has one mechanic.

Every situation comes down to “does this ability have access to multipliers to kill mobs with billions and trillions of health?”

If the answer is no, then your build will suck.

If the answer is yes, your build can push further.

There is almost zero skill difference between someone stuck on t3 and someone blasting t4. It’s all about whether or not blizzard decided that your class and build will have access to bigger numbers, and if not, hope the next season they mess something up that bugs out a multiplier in a way it shouldn’t, enjoy it for ~3 months, and then watch the build be gutted the following season.

Absolutely. For me personally, as I said in another thread, D4 needs to add the complexity back to loot drops, banish powercreep, balance and fix their game no questions asked. Judging from what the developers are saying and doing, they will never do that so essentially they don’t care in alienating me and others that think like me. It is what it is I suppose.

can you elaborate on what do you actually mean by adding complexity back to loot drop ?

Because S4 is like the best thing they did to overhaul loot. There were too many dmg on tuesdays those weren’t complex, they were just trash in general and bloating the RNG affixes lol

As far as I am aware GGG aren’t doing that to their loot either. GGG is determined to give you less drops but more quality drops when it drops, exact same thing is what D4 team is doing. Except the current season went back few steps cuz Ancestral drop and legendary aspect was gutted so now we get trash again over and over.
