I feel bad for Vigo after Prava made him do penance in that armor that killed him. To me this personally feels out of character for a Cathedral of Light to do to their own followers. This seems something Lilith would do or other Diablo antagonist like the Maiden of Pain from D3.
I get in the horrific world things are pretty harsh but anyone could have been manipulated in taking a bribe from a demon so why does a church which is about seeking redemption in the light. Punish by death for something so little (well technically not little) I feel Vigo got killed off too soon & would have served better to progress in the story with us maybe die later towards the end.
I hope Prava in perhaps the final act gets corrupted & we are forced to kill her or make a dlc expansion about how Prava is exposed to be a manipulator & uses sadistic punishments to keep her position as Reverend Mother and she is drawn to the sin of Greed. So when the lords of hell arrive the Lord of Greed shall influence her & she goes mad.
Prava is doing the bidding of Inarius and from what I can tell Inarius isn’t exactly the good guy that the Cathedral of Light makes him out to be. There are darker forces at work here and my feeling is that Vigo’s sacrifice served a more nefarious purpose towards whatever plans Inarius may have. Eventually we may also find out that Prava is also a pawn in all this.
Lilith is not the only evil force at work in Sanctuary.
I wanted to kill vigo after he ran like a coward earlier in the chapter. As soon as i got back to prava I was like “Give me the option to rat your cowardly rear out”
Inarius did not order Prava to condem Vigo to this punishment. This was her own decision as the narrative showed from the first introduction. Prava & that other guy disliked Vigo for his lateness or what was it they said? So it shows theres resentment against him off the bat from Prava. As the guard let you in who said to Vigo be well or hope all goes well you knew at that point Prava was fed up with Vigo.
Now to go over your thoughts on Inarius yes he is not a pure beacon of holiness. Inarius like other angels has a dislike towards humans. Tyrael is the only one who gives humans a chance & would rather not see them die. But no angels except Malthiel want to order humans to kill other humans in such a sadistic manor. If an angel wanted a human dead I think the angel would do it themselves.
Indeed. They’re leaning into the ambiguity of good and evil. It reminds me of lawful alignments in D&D, where the inflexibility of rules often leads to merciless behaviour conducted by zealots. I like it. Inarius’s questionable morality has me stoked for the storyline.
Well, seeing as the game is dark fantasy medieval setting, I’m quite unsurprised by the way the religious fundament of the church of light has been created.
Much of it has been drafted from the annals of our own history, shaped and modded to fit within the game.
Salem Witch Hunts, Inquisition, penance through blood and death, martyrdom through sacrifice. These are all present in our own histories.
I love this about the story. Inarius looks all bright and shiny on the surface, but…faceless. Prava looks emaciated and a tad crazed with all her tats. So far I am actually liking Lilith the most. Ain’t it grand?
I think it’s that cutscene where she pulls the spear out of her son’s corpse, something about it, i felt swayed. Despite her demon armies and the harm she’s causing to the citizens of Sanctuary, she showed more humanity than Inarius, and that tilted me towards her side a little haha. Probably I’m too gullible.
Prava and Nyrelle need to die asap! I honestly can’t stand them!! (In the light this, in the light that… It only makes me want to go farther away from the light) and wish we could pick the evil side at the end of the game and go back to kill all the annoying npcs lmao.
Jokes aside, the dialogs outside of the cutscenes are really bad overall. I wish they hired better writers for diablo. It isn’t because it’s a video game that it should have embarrassing and repetitive dialog.
It’s because the dark is dark and the light in trying to be good, is also dark. Good can be just as bad as Evil in their deeds when they are Zealots. Love for example can be good but it can be extremely evil The way to hell is paved in good intentions.
It’s pretty obvious Blizzard is going to go for a “the church is actually the bad guys and Lilith actually did nothing wrong and is the good guy” story.
Well, Lilith is just amplifying peoples suppressed desires, humanity at its base form.
One can only suppress something so long, before it comes frothing to the surface.
Anger, hatred, despair, grief being among the negative traits.
She might even be amplifying positive traits that are suppressed, she was after all, the one advocating for the un restrained potential of the nephalim.
Inarius was contemplating if they should be destroyed, she didn’t let him have that chance.
She might be Mephistos daughter, but she has her own goals.
100% not the direction they’ll go hahaha. They won’t absolve Lilith of her deeds. Instead what’s obvious is that they’re going to provide reasons or justifications for her actions, and it’ll be up to us to decide whether or not she had good cause. Reminds me a little of The Last of Us II. No spoilers but the developers wanted to make a point about good and evil actions depends which side you’re on.
The whole Diablo mythos is based on the fact that humans are demon + angel. So if one of them seems “human” it’s really the other way around. Humans ARE their parents writ small.
The problem in all analysis is this simplistic view of Good vs. Evil.
Reality is grey. Inarius and the cathedral of light aren’t evil per se. But they are misguided, broken, and end up committing evil deeds.
