The game has its merits. I really liked the campaign. Open world and characters are beautiful. Skill trees have many interesting skills on them. But, only about 4 weeks in, having levelled up few characters with the highest being level 78 barb, I can’t force myself to log in anymore.
Two issues stand out prominently:

Resource generator / core ability loop plus all other cool skills barred by long cooldowns gets stale rather quickly. And I refuse to play the ridiculous “combos” of “kick while berserking while injured in your left foot and farting leeward” to reduce “leap” cd by 0.1 second. Who would have thought that one would prefer to play an ARPG game by using skills to kill monsters at will and not when the 1 hour cooldown happen to allow.

Loot(!) Seriously? Bland loot in Diablo series? I, until this day, still remember the joy of finding the first unique in Diablo. It was Messerschmidt’s Reaver. Though, it was D2 that made uniques really great and the reason to grind for hours, days, weeks allowing you to trade the ones you didn’t need for the ones you did. What we get now seems a random collection of conditional damage multipliers, the same for rare / legendaries and the same for unique items. Finding a unique item in D4 also means you need to sacrifice one of your legendary aspects which might actually be quite important for one of the multitude of three viable builds. I have realised today that I am not incentivised to grind beyond my current level. There is no loot to look forward to. What a said state of afffairs for a game with such a huge budget and time to develop. Please fix it over the incoming seasons and I will come back. I really want to enjoy this game.
