I still hate mercenaries and what they imply

Player power being tuned around the fact you’ll have your npc helping you… being forced to operate around the terrible AI system( i literally play no minion necromancer everytime i play necro)

On top of the fact they rub in our faces playstyles being barred from the players.

( light wielding shield user and Demon class)

There should be a sac buff like necros get if you don’t want a merc but it’s blizzard and that won’t be the case sadly

We won’t get a sac button, the people not using them are just going to be actively weaker individuals it’s so dumb

Player: “Huh? …uhg! Demons . Go handle that will you Jeeves?”
Companion: “Of course sir. Have at you fiend!”

I’m curious to see how they get implemented. Running Diablo 2 with a 4 aura mercenary was fun.

If it’s anything like it was in D3, they’ll be an afterthought that a lot of people just refuse to even use. I got tired of their jabbering about two days into using them and just never bothered to have one selected if I could help it. They sure better come with a mute button!

I just don’t want to have to listen to my mercenary firing off joss whedon style marvel movie quips, like I know blizz loves to do. I cannot stand it, I don’t want to listen to it. I don’t want to “get to know” my mercenary. Your writing and voice acting are bad, and forcing us to experience more of it will make mercs annoying.

edit: In addition to that, the idea of a merc kind of takes away from certain build fantasies, like if having a druid werewolf pack ever becomes a thing. A werewolf druid running around with 6 other werewolves…oh and btw here’s this idiot spouting annoying marvel movie quips off to the side just following us around.

100% will be trash D3 mercs. Not even questionable.

I have that right now. That is my current build.

ehh. You have a companion build, not a werewolf pack. You still have like 4 mandatory companion aspects. You can’t do werewolf things, you have to do companion things.

Half of your bar is still companion skills.

I am in Werebear form with 5 Werewolf companions. If i chose the path I could use were skills but i chose earth skills. what you are talking about exists in the game. you just have to use the aspects and unique items to fuel it.

I already know, I’ve already made the build, it’s not the kind of build I am referring to, and it’s not even the main point I was making in the original post.

Well this aged poorly

oh rly.

i guess for D3 players they are different

Is that what you took away from the Followers in D3, their jabberings? pity, each of them had a nice little contained backstory to those jabberings and a mission that gave them closure.

Yes, Scoundrel backstory was peak!

I can’t help thinking that all the time spent developing a mercenary system would have been better spent developing new classes.

That’s a false dichotomy. You’re assuming that somehow X Labor would be increased if Y Labor decreased.

It’s akin to saying Baskin Robbins would have 40 flavors if only they didn’t have a special flavor each month.

We’re getting 1 new class. Don’t you think it’s possible that’s all that was planned, regardless of other features???

That is true, but we already know the fact that the expansion was in the works, shortly after the launch of D4. They came out and said they want to provide new expansions yearly instead of every 2-4 years or something along those lines.

Im sure once VoH is launched, the next expansion will be in the works or very well could be in the early stages now.

I hope minimum that they are nice to have around but aren’t really game changing in combat. I got a lot of usage out of my companions in D3 but I can’t think of a single time they were actively the difference between life and death or success and failure, and I never missed their passive bonuses when I played with others.

Meanwhile there are builds in D2 that basically REQUIRE a specific merc set up to function.
