In every ARPG I’ve played a significant amount of time in (D3, POE, LE), the general progression through the levelling process is such that pretty much any build works and feels “fine” through levelling (ok, with POE you might have to follow a guide because of respeccing and complication issues).
You might not be particularly zoomy, but it won’t feel like a slog, and won’t be particularly difficult at this stage except for some boss mechanics and challenging elites.
It will likely change a lot in mid/late game, but you can just do the content, get through the campaign, explore and play how you want and enjoy some skills. The game was also advertised as “your class, your way”.
I expect certain builds to level better, of course - and drop luck can make you switch in a heartbeat.
Why then - even levelling with what maxroll considers S and A tier levelling sorcs - is everything SUCH a slog? It is so unfun to constantly be managing resources; to have insane and frankly overpowered burst damage following by 15+ seconds of zdps (in chain lightning’s case, a lot worse). 80% of my attacks are basic attacks.
I want to get to the part where all the aspects come into play, paragon progression and all that fun stuff - but getting there is a serious downer every time I play the game for an hour or two, to the point I’ve just had to turn it off and leave it for season 1 to see how it is then.
I don’t want to start off as a total normie and BECOME strong, I want to feel strong but become a different type of strong through the game - and the slog come BY CHOICE as I attempt harder and harder content.
Am I missing something here? Is the 1-50 experience supposed to be this dull? Is this just the direction of the game, and I should stay clear and stick to other ARPGs?
