When you have infinite drops and limited inventory space, eventually the game becomes an inventory management game. At some point, the pain of getting rid of an item that you would rather keep becomes greater than the joy you would have by playing, and you stop. My stash is full. My alts are full. Every time I want to pick up an item - I have to consider all my treasures and decide which one is the least-treasured. I am at this point with Destiny 2. I want to play, but I have no space.
How about a revolutionary change? Unlimited storage. We’ve been taught that that would cost too much hard drive space and it would break the game’s memory, but this is 2024 - surely there’s a way to figure it out.
Unlimited space would require a good search panel to find what you are looking for. There could certainly be incentives for trimming your collection and tools to help you do that – like searches that are smart enough to bring up a list of the things least useful and/or least desired in trades. If the ultra-cheap hard drive space becomes to costly then the unlimited space can be a perk of purchases in the shop. Make a purchase - get a bonus extra page of stash unlocked.
Deleting items I want to keep is the opposite of fun.
The season system deals with this in a way, by exiling all of your precious items (and characters) to the phantom zone. If you are out of character slots, delete one of your beloved toons. Every season presents players with a special invitation on a silver platter: “Everything you have has been banished to the wastelands. This is the perfect opportunity to quit this game.” But this is a whole other top than the one I started with.
Add a checkbox for auto-destruction of yellow items and below. Make a smart search so you can delete items that meet (or do not meet) other criteria.
Add unlimited space to remove the pain of deciding which treasured items to lose, make the game pure fun.
If it was cheap like 99 cents, I would definitely buy them. I don’t even look at the skins in the store but if they sold stash tabs for a small price, I’d do it. I don’t need to because I don’t play heavily enough to have my stash exploding with items but I like to be prepared lol
Oh that sucks dude. U can use my stash if u want. I have 0 things in it, and there’s absolutely no reason to ever put anything in it. If it’s not going on your character, then why are you holding on to it. So pointless to have a stash
I have multiple characters and multiple builds I want to try. I keep multiple copies of uniques because one has more of X and one hand more of Y.
And I want to sell things for billions of gold so that I can afford to buy better things for billions of gold.
i think you have a hoarding problem. yes more stash tabs are always welcome and hopefully we get more in the future, but you keeping everything that drops is the real problem at the moment
Loadouts to stow worthwhile gear into and removing the worthless affixes that keep sprouting up as GA like Life per second, Impairment Reduction, and Healing Received would help a ton.
Stash and inventory space is one of the strange design points that Blizzard insists on for no apparent reason. There are various theroies floating around, ranging from simple incompetence to some super psychology argument that it’s better for you and you just don’t realize it, with ardent defenders of the design treating the devs like Gods who have graced the gaming industry.
I just write it off as something that someone higher up in the dev team decided on a whim. Like how the Druid has to be obese and half of Druids cosmetics has to look like it came from the stone age. Like how the game goes out of its way to have an economy through gold sinks and gold sources even through there’s no infrastructure to support easy trading.
Last Epoch does it better and lets players focus on playing the game. I think the Diablo team has too much burden and pride that they are tying themselves down in a little box and unable to really innovate.
Ya, I bought several tabs to store my maps and uniques than they did the unthinkable and added maps tab and unique tabs! Well I had to buy those too, I think I spent more money on stash tabs in that free game than I paid for d4 lol
