Hello nice to meet you, my name is korven in the game diablo 4, I was playing the harcore/unconditional mode and I had in my inventory 2 escape scrolls, in a distraction I was killed but the scroll did not activate, I need help I lost my character level 88 because the escape scroll did not activate…
So there’s two ways to use the Escape Scroll. One you manually use it, it will port you to a “safe” place. Two it will automatically be used when you disconnect. It will not activate by itself if you just happened to not be paying attention.
Now there is an Elixir of Death Evasion available to Hardcore Players.
For the next 30 minutes, prevent death once and become Immune for 2 seconds. Once this takes place, you cannot benefit from it again for 5 minutes.
That is the only item that will automatically activate (assuming you have it applied) while you are playing and not being disconnected.
scroll of escape does not save you from death. you have to use it for instant teleport or if you are dc’d it will teleport you. but if you are attacked and die, you just die. nothing to do with scroll of escape
I thought that if they killed me it would be activated automatically so I was calm and confident, thanks for the clarification
Good clarifications!
This feels like to me the number of times I have run into a mob thinking I am invulnerable, really feeling that way as first HOTA shot goes off, and then suddenly realzing I’m not invulnerable as health rapidly drops because I have bossing gear on instead of dungeon gear. Run away to safety if I still can…oph…not cut out for HC.
Welcome KORVEN!
Scroll of Escape and Elixir of Death Evasion are tools which are meant to help you survive unexpected difficulty spikes or extreme situations, but they are a last resort, and you must never rely on them exclusively.
During normal gameplay, Scroll of Escape is an item that must be manually used in order to help you, as others have pointed out. (In theory, it may also protect you if you get disconnected.)
You can probably right click and use it from your inventory (I’ve never tried, but I assume it would work?) but this method would be far too slow in a high pressure situation. What most people do is assign Scroll of Escape to a slot on their Emote Wheel, so that it can more quickly be accessed and activated. If you want to further improve your chances of using the scroll in time, you can take the extra step of then assigning a specific key binding to that emote wheel slot - meaning you can instantly use Scroll of Escape with a single button press (PC only).
As you’ve learned, if you’re playing HC, you need to eliminate distractions, and pay close attention at all times. If something comes up that isn’t literally an emergency, at least teleport to town before addressing it, or exit the game.
One last thing, there is a Hardcore forum here, in case you wanted to discuss any other HC specific topics. Good luck out there!
