That’s been a classic barb build for two decades now. You did give me a chuckle.

I pretend my barb is yelling different names for different pasta types…

Fusilli, Gemelli, Gnocchi, Macaroni, Manicotti, Orecchiette !!!

In OP’s defense, in D2/D2R, literally every class was yelling the same thing as soon as they got outside of town.

switch to flail and shield
THUDTHUDTHUDTHUDTHUD
switch to main weapons

At least they upgraded the graphics in D4. Downside is a downgrade in gameplay I’m afraid. I’m still imagining a barbarian running around in circles with a sword in each hand, screaming over and over.

Loved my Monk. Never played a Bard but when someone tried to steal my camp I’d drop the whole damn zone on their head. Feign Death was the best thing ever! Suppose I should clarify. I’m talking about Everquest. I don’t think too many people these days knows what zone means, or the fun of gathering up every mob in one and dropping it on someone’s head for being stupid. Definitely don’t miss rare spawns. Ugh.

Ooof watching someone evac a dirty pull, and the subsequent chaos wipes out everyone nearby. Good times :joy:

Yeah. Pulling was not an exact science in a game where mobs have social aggro. Monks had it easier because they could stun the pack then throw a stone to break the stun and pull the one you want. Bards would just piss them all off and fade some distance away. You had to hope they eventually pathed back to the origin one by one so you could cleanly tag one or two of them, but a lot of the times the tag would bring more than expected. Mage pets were notorious for causing chaos and wipes too. Especially if you accidently clicked a target in the threat bar that’s in another room. Mage pet would run off, leaving you confused. All of a sudden you’re cursing and trying to zip to a town in a hurry.

Train to Zone!

Original Bard was able to literally kite an entire zone. They eventually changed max targets to 4 for Quad Kiting. Eventually they gave enemies Gate ability which stopped being able to kite almost entirely.

I always hated seeing that message because a lot of zones had two or three entry points. So you’re sitting there, o-ring puckered, waiting to see if a blob of bads is coming your way.

The newbs who trained to left side in Karnor’s Castle instead of right side always ruining the entrance afk spot. I also have a lot of memories of Orc trains in Crushbone on alts, and armies of spiders in Velks Lab.

I cannot fathom the current gamers playing an updated version of EQ with so many different mechanics. My older brother and I each had Beast Masters with our Epic and Scepters of Destruction and could permanently tank anything trading between our pets and the Disc ability tanking ourselves.

People complain about grinding in Diablo. Try playing a Ranger where you had to grind out god knows how many AAs just to have your Bow be viable. Deleveling could make your character entirely worthless. Falling into the Hole without a Key or dying in certain spots meant you had to have someone physically drag your corpse to you or pay a Necro for a coffin.

That place was just nasty in general. I hated it. You know … now that I’m thinking back on my Everquest career I think it’d be pretty boss if Diablo introduced Epics for each class.

AAs are pretty much essential on every class, some more than others. Mage pets are what broke the game. They were god tier tankers. Then they took the piss and brought mercenaries into the game. Which immediately killed grouping. It’s bad enough people boxed but mercs just killed group hopes entirely. Nobody wants to share drops.

I refuse to play a triple shout barbarian, because personally I think it’s completely asinine that every single barbarian build, whether HotA, whirlwind, rend, or anything else, is optimized only when using all three shouts.

Sure, I’ll never do NM100 or Echo because those are only doable by triple shouts, but so be it. I mean, I feel bad using two shouts but oh well, at least that gives the builds a little bit more variety.

Whenever I read Shout I immediately think of Carbot’s barb yelling at a corpse to get loot. Never gets old.
