I play hardcore only, and fighting bosses just becomes this affair of constantly checking the debuff stack status and often times it feels like there’s no rhyme or reason behind whether you pick up debuff stacks or not.
Is it when I get hit by ANY attack? What about if I have barrier up? Is it only on elemental attacks? What about the shade attack in the Pit? What about ground effects?
It just feels so unpredictable that getting debuffed almost feels like RNG. Sure, ideally you want to avoid all attacks but there are clearly attacks that don’t add stacks. Why even have that differentiation? I feel like there needs to be some kind of audio or visual vue for attacks that add debuff stacks, AND/OR there needs to be some way to remove stacks… like if you don’t get hit in a certain amount of time, a stack drops.
Basically just needs work.
its just certain attacks.
on pits its just the shades that give you atacks. tormented bosses have certain attacks that do so. i can see if i can find a online resource for you that lists the tormented bosses.

It is only certain attacks.
Like for Grigiore it is the big swing and the lightning fences.
You can search for it on youtube, wudijo has videos on what gains debuffs by boss.
Or make a SC caharacter and see for yourself by trial and error.

ah maxrolls boss guides do list them.
https://maxroll.gg/d4/bosses/echo-of-varshan
here is the one for varshan for example, which lists the floor patterns (Putrid Dance) as attack that gives you a stack.
the other bosses can be found there too so you can be on the extra safe side.

Any idea about whether barrier prevents you from adding stacks? I use an andy’s barrage rogue to boss and it feels completely random sometimes as to how many stacks I get despite basically just facetanking and not moving for every single fight.
Also they need to put some kind of rate limit as to how fast you can pick up stacks. The lightning squares on Grig adds a stack to you for each tick… the varshan purple stuff sometimes adds 2 stacks despite it being a single attack?
Just way too much unpredictability w/ this mechanic.
