I finally reached World Tier 4 and I have questions

This is my first time in WT4 and I have noticed a few things that I need some advice on:

  1. What is the best way to get gear? My Necro is decked out in mostly ~650ish gear and suddenly feels VERY squishy. The ancestral gear that dropped from a Whisper dungeon was around ~800, but the affixes were mostly useless for my build. For some stupid reason, the Helltide and Whisper gear I eventually got were all around ~600. :face_with_diagonal_mouth: Where am I supposed to go to get upgrades? And why is there such low level gear dropping in WT4 when I’m at level 72?
  2. Did they fix resistances? I remember on launch they were broken and players pretty much ignored them, and I think part of the issue with being so squishy is most of my resistances are in the negative. I remember Blizzard said they’d fix resistances for S3, but they also said we’d have a Gauntlet and a Leaderboard in S3, so, I’m not sure if the resistance reword was delivered on or delayed. Should I be paying attention to resistances?
  3. Why does The Butcher have an invulnerability shield? He showed up while I as in a Whisper dungeon and I noticed I wasn’t doing any damage to him as his health bar had a blue “shield” overlayed on it. Is this a barrier? How am I supposed to get rid of it? During the fight, I somehow managed to get rid of it while frantically kiting him with my Blood Surge build, but then the shield went back up shortly afterwards. I was not in the mood to spend the next 30 minutes trying to fight him, so I just let him kill me so I could get on with things. :face_with_diagonal_mouth: Is there a better way of dealing with him then just letting him kill you?

  1. Duriel runs or NMD 90+ runs. Just get carried. If you provide mats in rota and there’s a HOTA barb, this is the best way. Your damage doesn’t matter and you’ll be raining in upgrades soon. The low level item drops are scaled to your lower level. This happens as well when you spend obols.

  2. Yes. Get to 70 on the stat sheet.

  3. Yes, just let butcher kill you and move on if you are not playing HC.

Good luck on the journey!

1 - This season probably vaults is the best place for gear. As you get so many drops from the chests at the end.

2 - Yes, resistances matter now. Although it’s fairly easy to cap them.

3 - Because reasons. He get’s it in WT4 just to be more annoying. There is the one seasonal power that removes shields that helps. Otherwise you just need more DPS. But yeah, until you get to the point where you can kill him fairly quickly it’s usually easy to just let him kill you and get on with your game.

  1. First time in WT4 can be tough, it’ll take a while to get the gear you need. Finding friends to run you through higher content could help you, but overall finding the right stats for your gear will take a considerable amount of time. Run vaults in my opinion, join the world bosses when they spawn, maybe a helltide or two, and just look for freebie runs of uber bosses in the trade chat.

  2. They fixed resistances, but there’s also a -50% Resist penalty for just being in WT4. You will need 120% total in a single resist to reach the cap of 70% in WT4, check your Resistances tooltips under your stat sheet. They aren’t too difficult to eventually max out with use of paragon and gear, even slightly easier if you’re a Necro or Sorc since int adds to resists as well. Don’t neglect your armor though, that’s also very important, along with ‘Damage Reduction’ affixes of all types.

  3. To give him some form of difficulty. Once you’re geared and you have your build set he won’t cause you any problems, even with his annoying shield, but early on, he’s more of a nuisance, and usually not worth the effort. If I’m taking more then 5 minutes on him it’s just not worth it.

I actually got a lot of gear farming tremors including a few unique drops such as tempest roar, flickerstep and aesetic wraps for my Druid. The gear at WT4 comes with an even more watered down affix pool than the other world tiers so be prepared to spend more time looking at gear stats versus playing the game for a bit. It is a problem and hopefully gets resolved with season 4.

Fortunately for Necromancer being that it’s one of the two INT based builds that means it comes with a fair amount of resistance baked into the build. Best ways to get around any gaps in your resistances on Necromancer is to slot gems in your gear to cover 3 of the 5 resistances and look for boots to cover for the other two. Eventually though you should be able to get away from your dependency on the gems and the boots. I prioritized getting them off my gems (jewelry) so I could slot skulls there for more armor instead.

The butcher is not a friendly fight towards certain specs that rely on large AOE clears to take down rooms full of enemies. He requires a more single target focus to take down or at least a more reliable way to create single target damage on an AOE type of spec. Some builds struggle more than others, but eventually any build with solid gear and paragon points can put him down easily.

RE: Gearing:

No, I really don’t want to do this. It defeats the entire purpose of playing the game for me.

They were not fun in WT2 and WT3, not sure they’ll be any fun in WT4 either, especially with my Blood Surge build. Even in WT2 you could get one-shot easily, and the rewards were never that good.

And here I thought WT4 would have better affixes

OK, I will look into this. My plan was to eventually do more of these, but I’ve not unlocked the final tier of map rewards ever, so I was trying to prioritize doing Whisper dungeons for the renown.

RE:sistances:

OK, good to know. The build guides I skimmed did not seem to prioritize resistances on gear, but maybe they mentioned it and I just missed it

2 don’t even need perfect affix. Just getting 925 weapon with any affix will be game changer. Make rest of WT4 open world for next 10 levels a breeze.

Gear drops scale with your level now. If you’re underleveled for WT4, you’re not going to see much gear better than what you already have. It will improve as you level up.

This season arcane tremors and vaults are good ways to get gear drops. The braziers where they summon Heralds of Malphas are a particularly good spot, as there tends to be a lot of people there repeatedly summoning them. Check your map for the tremor area that has a whisper tree event. People will be there.

I haven’t used it yet, but I think the pet has a rune designed specifically for destroying barriers/shields.

Go to the world boss event and hang around on the edges.

I find that blood surge, while a great build for leveling up, is not as strong as other builds in the end game, such as bone spear, or even a blight/corpse explosion(at least last season it was) build. Just takes a bit to get some of the gear you need for the other builds. That is one of the beauties of blood surge is that it is so easy to gear.

I was face tanking butcher though with a blood surge/minions build when he was 15 levels higher than me at 52 in WT3. Have not seen him in WT4 yet though, so he may eat my lunch, who knows.

Not about being fun, they’re loot piñatas, we’re only after gear here. :stuck_out_tongue:

Nope, same affixes, just higher item level, which just amounts to higher armor/damage for the most part. Affixes have a fixed range of values after a certain item level and never increase beyond that.

I forget the number but just as an example an item level 750 will have the same affix range as an item level 925. So if Max life can range from 300 to 800 on a 750 item, it’ll be the same range on a 925. Armor, damage, and resists are the only thing that increases on higher item level gear, so if you find a really good 800+ piece of gear with all the stats you want just continue using it. The only exception would be a weapon, as base damage is king.

  1. Yes resistances are fixed, but there is -50 penalty, so it will instantly be lower than what you had in WT3, you need to get those back up.

  2. Yeah he gets a shield, put the tuning stone Breaking Support on your seneschal and that will help a lot.

1 ) The best way to get gear when you are under leveled is to get on your horse, and go to the Braziers. You are looking for one with a group of people just summoning one after the other. Don’t get off your horse but stay in the vicinity, you are not here to try and fight, just leech, no one will care. You will get ancestral loot quickly.

The other option is go to the WorldBoss and declare in local chat that “you are there to help” and watch people get mad at you. :stuck_out_tongue:

Also keep an eye out for people like me in the trade chat. I offer up spots on my Varshan, Grigoire, Zir, and IceBeast runs all the time, you don’t need mats, I usually just ask if “anyone needs the boss’ gear”. It is so lower level players get a shot at some decent loot. I hate wasting the spots.

Looks like folks adequately answered your questions but about the Butcher
if you are finding him and/or his barrier difficult, there is a tuning stone you can use on the stupid robot that removes barriers (as mentioned by Irres). Excuse me
I mean, the delightful construct companion that is the pinnacle of this season’s glory.

I used to feel this way about him too, but after lvl72 we are like Shrek and Donkey. He is Donkey. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ll TRY to look at it differently but I
whiney voice just don’t like it! I don’t think level/construct power is the thing for me. First seasonal character is level 100 and my second one is level 81, the stones for the thing are pretty much maxed. Just not a fan of “companions”, I think.

EDIT: I do like the “Firefly” governing stone though. Lil buggers are adorable.

I zip through the dungeon dropping rabies on everything and have to go back 3 rooms to pick up my construct in a corner trying to finish off a mechanical bee. Reminds me of Necro minion AI :man_facepalming:
