OK, Inarius wants the key to hell that was hidden away. But, he goes to Rathma for the key. Rathma plays coy and doesn’t tell Inarius the key is in his spear. Then Inarius kills him and leaves his weapon behind. Why would you leave the murder weapon at the scene of the crime? Why would you leave your prized spear behind if you left empty handed?
Like I get Rathma is Hatred’s heart. It was one of the few ancients that she didn’t kill to get back at Inarius. But, I don’t understand Inarius’ holier art thou part in the story to not know he has the key to hell all along, but also to leave his spear in Rathma’s body for Lilith to take.
I will resurrect Raythma next week with my Necromancer maybe he will fill me in on what is going on.
Does Inarius really think that Imperius will let him back into the High Heavens?
That’s because you made the initial error of thinking it was inside inarius’s spear, whats taken out if rathma is rathmas staff.
As such it’s rathmas staff that carried the key
Rewatch the cinematic after Lilith pulls the staff out, its adorned with skulls and the like, hardly a divine weapon.
ok, I guess it makes slightly more sense if the weapon sticking out of Rathma’s chest is Rathma’s staff. I am reading the prophecy along with watching the cutscene that plays directly after the quote, “Hatred’s heart will be pierces by light’s spear.” I mistakenly assumed the weapon was Inarius’. I didn’t think Inarius would have used another weapon to kill than his own spear.
“key to hell inside Inarius’ spear”
sounds like a weird fetish at first glance
The profecy plays out during the trailer, the one in which Inarius throw his spear into Lilith’s hearth. I belevieve this has something more deeper than what it looks like.
What i still doesn’t seem to find out is how exactly Rathma got this key and why.
If i remember correctly from the sin wars, Inarius got handed over to Mephisto to be imprisioned in hell, in exchange of hell being cut off from sanctuary, as well as heaven also closing its gates, the memories of the Nephalem (edyrem) would be erased, except Mendeln’s (maybe Rathma as well?)
So he probably got it to hide it from anyone trying to open it again and letting the primes come back, which didn’t work since the primes masterminded the dark exile alog with Izual and the games happened. But now, how this key fits into the lore?
And how Lilith knew exactly how to find the key even though Inarius did not? Was she the one who gave it to Rathma?
Also i think Rathma is not really gone. The scene depicts a serpent like creature in the center of the camera, in the big wall. Maybe it’s Trag’oul, or diablo? couldn’t say which one, but rathma is the First Nephalem and he was the one with the knowleddge of necromancy, so it’s rather dumb if he simply dies without a fight with Inarius and can’t come back from the dead…
Like, who made the key to hell? Why does it even exist?
Unrelated to the point, but if Linarian is actually dead here? I’ll be very disappointed in Blizzard. He’s the strongest of the children, by far. He SHOULD be able to basically snap his parents out of existence, so for him to go down like such a chump will completely turn me away from this game. They spend all of this time hyping up how strong the Nephalem were – they were essentially the entire reason for this new war … If Inarius has the power to just ground-stomp him like that; EVEN SUPED UP? It’s just pathetic. Do better Blizzard.
It’s because Rathma stabbed his own corpse doll with a spear for Lilith to find.
Rathma isn’t the strongest, not even close.
Uldyssian. was the strongest by an order of magnitude if not more.
And the protagonist of Diablo 3 is stronger still.
The key to Lillith’s hell was truly in Inarius’ ‘spear’.
I really think the serpent is a painting done by the necromancer order, they represent Rathma as a serpent as Mendeln had taught them. But the serpent is in fact Trag’oul is existence is keep secret, and when Rathma in D4 talk about a serpent where he can see futur, present, and past, it’s clearly Trag’oul since he was described like this in the novel. Trag’oul has affinity with all element including space and time.
And I relly think the dog is Mephisto. Because the sygil on his head is in the book of Aria, and it’s described as a Mephisto invocation ritual.
But I really dont know who’s set free after Hatred heart was pierced by a spear of light. Was it on the past ? if yes maybe how Inarius was set free since he was imprisoned by Hatred =Mephisto. Or in the futur ? in this case I really don’t know
The bigger part I don’t understand is Rathma says he sees Inarius grabbing the key from his corpse, so why was it there when Lilith arrived if the prophecy was true? Was it just Inarius proving that the prophecy wasn’t true? But in that case, was it necessary to kill Rathma?
He didn’t say that tho. He said he had a vision of the key being pulled off his body under his serpent in his chamber or whatever by SOMEONE. He didn’t say who did it. He said if it’s Inarius that did it, then it will come to pass that it is Inarius that pulls the key off him in that location and off Rathmas dead body. But that’s where the key is taken. That’s all he said.
But if Inarius killed him and didn’t get the key, why would he leave anything behind and not take it for a thorough search?
He just didn’t think to look inside Rathma’s staff I guess. An oversite.
Yes but the whole reason he did it was to get the key. Why would he leave without it?
He didn’t know it was hidden in Rathma’s staff. He probably left very frustrated.
I suppose. Everything looked relatively intact for frustrated though.
Well I guess we don’t know for sure. It’s possible he wanted Lilith to find it for some reason. Maybe “Inarius” is Diablo in disguise for all we know. Laying a trap. He prepped the dead body and left the staff for Lilith to find. Could be!
