It’s the worst in the series. It’s a silly action game with little to no RPG. It’s for smooth brains who can’t grasp more complex mechanics like D2 and PoE has to offer. If you think Diablo 3 is the best in the series it says a lot about your character.
That’s just a remaster. Of course there’s a much smaller audience for a remaster of a 20 year old game.
All that matters is how much of a market share the game sold. Diablo 2 had a much bigger market share than Diablo 3 did. And a lot of those Diablo 3 sales were based on the buzz created by how good Diablo 2 was.
I’m not saying Diablo 3 was unsuccessful; I’m not even saying it’s a bad game. I like it. But I prefer it as a standalone game and I do not consider it a Diablo game. I think it pioneered the isometric genre that Hades is in.
You know Blizzard’s lost public trust when the only thing white knights regurgitate is marketing mumbo jumbo that was designed to make them believe they had something to fight for - they don’t.
Dad gamers did exist 20 years ago, and a teenage/college gamer market is bigger now than ever and is the core gaming market as it has always been. You’re just clueless and obviously a dad gamer yourself and can’t see beyond your own experience.
Man I am definitely onboard with like no dev ever playing this garbage. I mean, who thought pausing horses mid-stride on invisible obstacles made for an enjoyable gaming experience? Or disappearing corpses? Ultimately, just disappointed in this game in general. Nobody from my guild really even plays anymore, no lfg, no incentives to login. But I hear the xp boost will be this weekend…I just can’t.
Only because it was riding off the coattails of Diablo 2s epicness. It’s trash.
That’s fine. Entertainment is subjective. You think D3 is trash and I think that D2 is beyond overhyped. And the best part is that we are both correct.
the d4 team will always fail, because no matter what they do they will not appease more than half of the diablo fanbase, because, this fanbase is split into people that like d3, and people that dont, and you can only please one of these groups, or none.
either way, my guess is in a few seasons blizzard will fold and pivot towards diablo 3, and choose that demographic over the core diablo fans that dont like diablo 3.
but ultimately i dont think they will ever please the diablo fanbase, because in true diablo 3 nature, its still biting the franchise in the butt 10 years later by simply existing.
It’s different this time around because Diablo I, II and III lead the genre, Diablo IV adopted predatory monetization models from free to play games and charged us $70 to $100 for it.
This game will never be a rewarding experience until the cosmetic store is gone and players are given an option to play off line. There’s no reason why a Harlenquin crest should be any harder to obtain in Diablo IV than it is in Diablo II. This game isn’t fun because it makes you so desperate for dopamine you’d most likely buy a cosmetic in their store just to feel rewarded. It’s predatory, disgusting and a total disgrace to the franchise and the genre.
diablo 3 was a better game on release than it is now.
You’re cherry picking examples, and even then not great ones. Titan Quest is closer to Diablo 1 than Diablo 2 from a feature perspective, it has very rudimentary multiplayer and MMO style content. Grim Dawn is basically the same. Far from being the outlier, SP centric games without all this MMO stuff represent the vast majority of ARPGs ever made. Diablo 2, PoE, Last Epoch…what else? There have been dozens of ARPGs made over the years. More than 90% of them have no economy to speak of, or any need to level grind for non-existent seasonal content.
Your entire argument basically boils down to “the things I like are the only things that matter, everything else sucks.” Games like Torchlight, Dungeon Siege, Titan Quest, Nox, WH4k: Inquisitor…they don’t stop being what they are because you don’t like them.
Don’t just take my word for it. Here’s a pretty comprehensive list of every ARPG ever made:
https://www.reddit.com/r/ARPG/comments/du5gv7/big_list_of_arpgs/
If you’ve played even five percent of those games you’d know, it’s not even questionable: The MMO stuff is the outlier here. It’s a casual genre, always has been.
All those games have more depth than D3. D3 is a silly arcade game. It has no skill trees, it has brain dead itemization, it has little to no role playing. Is this Jay Wilson’s alt account? No one likes your game bud stop trying to justify your crappy game changes.
What’s diablo 2/4 then ? Turn based card games? Are you high. Action role playing game arpg. Seriously log out and don’t post here anymore.
We get it. You’re an addict.
Quit flinging the poo at others who are not, maybe? It makes you come across as petulant and a little bit… sad.
Diablo 2 is an arpg. Diablo 4 is an arpg but with really bad itemization. It kind of tries but fails on game design on so many levels. It’s just a bad game, but I’d still call it an arpg, sure.
An addict? I play all kinds of games bud. I just know which ones are good and which ones are bad because I’ve been gaming for a long time
So - you are aware that D2 is old garbage but continue to rabidly leap to its defense at every opportunity?
Rigght… I totally buy it.
…then claim that D3 is nowhere near as good and expect us to believe you are even vaguely capable of telling good from bad.
That’s pushing it, “mate”.
D3 had:
Terrible, forgettable soundtrack
No skill trees
Laughably bad story
Not nearly as atmospheric or dark
Boring itemization - all skill dmg tied to weapons, primarily stat sticks and 4 modifer limitations on items
Less items to hunt for - No charms, jewels, runes, ect
No runewords or end game crafting
Less mercenary customization
No sense of progression when leveling up. Choosing runes were not rewarding if you already liked the skills you had
RMA at launch was pay to win and hurt the game
Uninspired boring legendaries at launch
It’s a terrible arpg. It’s an ok action arcade game. If you like Diablo 3 you like casual action games. You aren’t a fan of the arpg genre.
All that and it was still a better game than Diablo IV.
Nothing - literally nothing - to do with gameplay but OK. You have some arbitrarily “superb” taste in music and therefore you are the sole arbiter of what makes good music. OK, then, That’s adorable.
An ACTION rpg without inflated skill trees to carry skil… wait a second,. Then where’d all those skills come fro… Oh, I get it. This isn’t D2. Boo-hoo harder?
That’s nice. Story is NOT the underpinning feature on an ARPG. Never has been. Want to enjoy a good story well told, that’s what RPGs are for. The story was perfectly fit for purpose and utterly meaningless in the scope of the game.
Atmosphere is perfectly fine. Your actual whine is this is not D2. Again, boo-hoo harder.
Here’ some creative reimagining. The itemization in D2 is primarily garbage compared to D3. At least D3 provides useful, class focused, drops as opposed to primarily vendor trash - especially whilst levelling.
“This isn’t D2”… Please refer boo-hoo etc…
So the LoD/LoN chase doesn’t exist and, in fact, legendary gems and cube don’t exist at all?
This is, again, “not D2… waaaaah!”
Utter, provable, nonsense. Have you even PLAYED D3? Really?
OK. You never actually played D3. You’re just talking tripe for the sake of all those memberberries…
That’s nice. Not sure what this has to do with anything now, but it’s good to remember random, stuff. I suppose.
