I don't look forward to sidequests

They feel like a chore. Wait a minute, I’m being given a list of things to do, that I don’t want to do… an entire list of them in fact. They are chores!

Why did the devs think adding chores to an ARPG would make it fun?

Yes, things like D2 had quests, but they didn’t feel so bad. For one thing, there’s very few of them outside the main story which was compelling and the ones that received dislike among most fans like rescuing all of the Barbarians (fun exactly once and never again), they basically put a ton of in this game. Why?

Some few are neat that expand upon the core story. Some few expand upon the world.

The rest? No one wants them.

I hate MMO quests The main reason I dropped Hellgate London.

Word I hate them too. I feel like they just want us to waste our time so we buy skins.

They should instead have focused on making something compelling to play. Too many systems feel like they are built around making us spend time, rather than have fun.

People that are ok with that already will prefer WoW. I don’t play Diablo to have my time wasted by the game.

Wow people are complaining about everything.

Some of these side quests have great lore and stories and you’re too busy trying to rush that you’re prob not even reading a thing just skipping ahead.

What is the rush that you are in a such a hurry? What’s wrong with the side quests? What else do you need to be doing that you can’t be bothered to do them?

Already mentioned them in the OP.

So get rid of the ones that don’t. I’m not thinking oh boy I sure want to go on a fetch/courier quest! My favorite!

Why are you trying to have an entirely different discussion what assumption are you running on? If anything you entirely miss the point. I feel like you’re someone that wants to slow people down for the sake of slowing them down. Much like these quests. Just let people have fun playing their way. Tons of sidequests are not that, they force people to play the designed way.

I’ll let you in on a not well guarded secret. If Blizz wanted people to both have fun and spend lots of time, they’d make itemization good. That’s the core of a good ARPG and the itemization in this game is like the sidequests, not much more than a chore.

Might as well ask here are some quests mandatory for example do some give paragon points?

Then don’t do them at all.
Don’t even pick up blue quest markers, problem solved for you right there, see how easy that was ?

Resources are being spent on this, as a feature. I don’t think it even belongs in a Diablo game, especially when core systems like itemization obviously had very little effort spent on them compared to what should have been.

I think they would be cool if their purpose was completely redesigned. Let’s take the Diablo 2 for example. People like to farm something like Meph. Now imagine you could go do a side quest and that side quest would lead you to a boss that could drop items like Meph does in D2. That would be fun to do. A quick shot at a D2 shako or a reapers toll, etc. Ooh what if it’s an eth one! It’s exciting. The possibilities.

I would love side quest if that’s what there was to look forward to. Would be a great alternative during some down time between farming something else in this game that was cool like legion events. Imagine legion events had the same kind of drop rate farming ancient tunnels in D2 had. OMG a tals armor! If you get that early in a season, you are rich.

There is nothing like that in this game. The real root of the problem is this fact. There are no items to go after. The itemization is awful. If that was put in place, then they could fix what things in this game have a chance at dropping. And if they made these things more farmable, the game could be salvageable. Nobody would complain about XP if the game became fun, and that endgame loop started at 75 or something.

But they will never do that, because it would probably conflict with some engagement metric they have about cross-platform something rather who knows whatever.

Ya I agree, Itemization is the endgame of an ARGP and all this other stuff misses the mark and point entirely. I don’t know who these game designers are but I feel they totally missed the point of an ARPG because they didn’t actually enjoy ARPGs.

All this stuff seems to be thinking “how can we force players to play more” not realizing that it’s making so many want to just drop the game instead.

Well that’s cool but just remember lots of people do like them and enjoy doing the side quests so….

I’ve played MMOs to the point of being sick of them, and rpgs too.

Never have I heard anyone do anything but make fun of and dread courier/fetch quests. They are low effort garbage.

Ok cool :sunglasses:

Have fun playing Diablo IV

The main story and action aspects of D4 are good.

But they dropped the ball on itemization which is probably the most important thing for an ARPG and we are saddled with all these “systems” that aren’t fun to replace it.

The fun to be had is drying up, but it hasn’t for a game like D2 because the itemization is eternally fun. I think this is very good feedback and it’s not uncommon feedback either.

Iirr you do not need to do any side quest, except for the last renown bracket.
And since you can easily skip all dialogue, i treaded them just like something i have to “farm”.

I also do not care about side quest and story overall in diablo games, but i acknowledge that others may have fun with it.

I’ve yet to meet a person who likes fetch/courier quests of which this game has many.

No idea how interesting the quests actually are, since i skipped all dialogue.
But i did read several posts from people stating they like doing the side quests. And imo, that is fine. Let them enjoy what they want.

Well now you have met one. I love the side quests it is a great change from D3 and your only two options are GR’s and running bountys until you eyes bleed.

Personally I did every single side quest I could find before I finished the main story line. Ya, I can see for some they would not like it but I found it refreshing to be doing something different in a Diablo game than the same wash rinse repeat we have had for 25+ years as a break from farming bosses or chaos in D2 or Gr’s and Bountys in D3.

Some of them are really cool.

Glad you enjoyed it but you are not the norm, most people will like a side quest that expands on lore or story in a meaningful way, but there’s only a few of them that do this. Most of them are just busy work.

Out of all my friends only a few did more sidequests than they had to in order to get renknown.

None did them all. Not a single one.

I have not seen many say they did all of them like you did either.
