I dont get the point of this season. (Season 4)

Hello everyone,

I don’t mean to cause any friction, I genuinely want to understand what makes this season of Diablo IV fun, because personally, I’m not finding it enjoyable and I’m wondering if there’s something I’m missing. I love Diablo and I really want to like this season, but I just don’t get it.

Right now, for me, the game is about going to Helltides and being at the boss that spawns, where without much effort, you level up continuously and get legendary items non-stop. And that’s it, just being there and looting, since seasonal reputation is only gained this way. I don’t even check the powers of the legendaries I get anymore, I just recycle everything if the big number isn’t green. There’s nothing to look at!
Then, I create a build I like using the observer, since everything is unlocked with so many legendaries.

  • Nightmare dungeons? Yes, for leveling glyphs, but not even for unlocking skills because in Helltides you get so many legendaries that you end up having everything within a few hours. They become more of a “chore” than something fun because you think you’d be getting better items and more experience faster in Helltides.

Where’s the excitement of looting a legendary and checking its power to see if it improves your build and then moving forward?

Where’s the challenge of playing through and earning things? Now you get EVERYTHING IMMEDIATELY, without effort, you just go to one zone and you can even go AFK because it’s always full of players. I don’t find any fun in that.

What about the original content of the game? I did the dungeon to advance to WT3 at level 43 without even checking my health, without worrying about the boss mechanics because the boosts are so disproportionate that you’re practically invincible and kill everything without trying! In previous seasons, doing a dungeon like this was fun, you had to dodge, you had to check your skills and stats…

Now it’s all reduced to the endgame in the PIT, and that’s great, but what about the journey to get there? The journey to get there is just standing in Helltides… and that’s killing me. I don’t understand why people praise this season so much if it literally makes the game non-existent until the endgame.

Many will say that’s not important and that the endgame is all that matters… Under that reasoning, just give us a level 100 character with all powers unlocked so we can jump into building our character and playing PIT directly.

Even unique items, which used to be something you looted and it made your day, are now just given to you directly across various level ranges as seasonal rewards. They stop being unique and become much more common.
Yes, there are still uber-uniques, but that’s just splitting hairs.
Right now, the real categories would be Rare = Legendary = Common, Unique = Legendary. Uber-unique = Unique.

I hope someone can explain to me what I’m “not seeing” about this season and what makes it so fun, so I can turn things around and enjoy it. Honestly, no hard feelings.

I think the endgame is important, but the journey is too.

Just my opinion, thanks.

The point is to do things and get stuff. Thats it.

I often look back and remind myself that there was literally no point to doing anything in Diablo 2, yet it was super addicting. Then, I continue blasting in d4.

Sounds to me like you haven’t hit the pit yet. That’s the main end game driver right now. Do the pit get masterwork materials. Level up you gear push higher up tiers in the pit.

I’m finding the power progression very satisfying this season. The first time I did tormented duriel (lvl 200) it was a challenge but now that my gear has improved he goes down first time every time and I like that feeling. But even as duriel gets easier there’s still a lot of challenges left in the pit.

It’s not going to be everyone’s thing though but hopefully over time they add more and more content we can rotate through.

Thank you for your response, you’re right.
I haven’t reached the PIT yet, and I’m speaking about what I’m experiencing during the leveling process. Although I believe that no matter how good the PIT and the endgame are, the base game and the leveling phase shouldn’t be neglected. I’ll try to reach that point and see if I enjoy it as much as you say, hopefully!

Pit is pointless if there isn’t a leaderboard for it.

I have the same feeling as you. The leveling is tedious even though it is accelerated (and I still hope for another XP bonus in season 5), the loot is meaningless, the game is about killing and looting but there is something in between that the game fills in making everything easier.
I honestly don’t have much hope that D4 won’t go the same way as D3

Its the season of rewarding quests courtesy of The Iron Wolves! I got a shako from it. Leveling was fun & easy too. This is a core gameplay season. They all aint power creepers that ppl claim ruins the game but actually want.

Fun is subjective so myversion of an explanation may not suit you. But this season has been a lot of fun running around Helltides. Trying out new builds and pushing the Pit.

I don’t get it. In other seasons you had dopamine tunnels and that was it. You seem to care about pure efficiency so I dont get how someone would want the old lvling process back. Where you only grind out one dungeon and get nothing besides exp in it.

In my cases there arent even always people at the blood maiden… I often just roam around the zones killing stuff… opening chests instead of only hugging the altar. You get rep by doing all the helltide activities, killing mobs and chests. It’s because of the high density that it’s the best way to lvl up to 50 and then nmd with their events take over until lvl 100.

Some of you seem to forget that there is no content besides helltides, dungeons and whispers. Now when helltide finally shines people complain about it being to good lol.

Insane.

I always get excited when I see the greater affix icon. Sure the other loot is garbage these days but there is no way around it. People want the best loot and not the mid tier stuff.

My thoughts on the leveling process.

Levels 1-50 are for figuring out your build and identifying what gear and affixes you need. This process should be pretty quick.

Levels 50-80 are for figuring out paragon boards and finding the best tempering recipes and legendary aspects and leveling glyphs. A bit more time needed here, but shouldn’t take too long.

Level 80 - 100 are for fine tuning your build and finding the best versions of the gear you want with greater affixes. You should start running pit here for masterworking materials. This is where the meat and potatoes of gear comparison should be happening.

Level 100 is for deeper pit runs for finishing masterworking and glyphs so you can challenge level 200 bosses. This is potentially endless, depending on whether your build needs reassessment.

If you’ve gotten your build off some website instead of working it out yourself, levels 1-80 are going to be pretty boring.

This is the takeaway I have come to, as well, Voce. I also minimize how much time I spend on the forums now.
