I do NOT want to restart the game!

I think I speak for a majority of players as seasons in D3 and D2 only had a few thousand participants - the audience that wanted that loop and kept coming back.

This is certainly not the majority of players in my opinion. They should focus more on expanding endgame systems, adding things like a endless procedural hell-scape to get lost in where your map doesn’t work or something crazy like that.

Do not over-buff everyone, nerfs are sometimes needed. Otherwise you eventually trivialize all content and the game dies. There should be a mode where maxed out characters struggle to keep everyone theory-crafting and min-maxing.

Add more horizontal progression and expand PVP. Let us toggle it on and off like in WOW and PVP anywhere.

But for Gods sake, do not make me rebuild my character over and over, I only want to play Barb, how many Barbs am I gonna have???

Seasons kept the series alive for 20 years.

That is a fact.

I need stats and a source on this one. However, the good news is you don’t have to restart. Seasons are optional! You can continue playing your character

Sunk cost fallacy - they will not scrap the season thing no matter how hard people kick and scream about it.

I like this idea a lot though

Well yeah… maybe they should have went the CoD route and published a new iteration every 3-4 years instead of beating a dead horse.

No, you don’t. You speak for yourself only.

Restarting is fun. I made it to 78. Stopped playing until S1 starts and im looking forward to it. Seasons were the only thing that kept me play d3 for so long.

You actually don’t have to do that, different from POE and D3, Your don’t need to play Seasons to enjoy the content that they will bring, they will be available on the ‘‘eternal realm’’ and Season realm… The only different from season to the normal game, will be the realm.

We cannot say what will come with seasons, but they might add endgame content. Seasons are a way to keep the game fresh until the expansion.

Seasons will probably be ‘‘new patches’’ from Wow, where you get new Raid and Dungeons.

Then don’t restart the game?
You don’t have to play seasonal. It is completely optional. You do not lose your characters they just become non-seasonal characters.
When season 2 starts you don’t lose your season 1 characters either. The season 1 characters will also become non-seasonal characters when season 2 starts.

This is a valid point.

I understand the general sentiment on the forums is that D2 has been kept alive for so long and that D3 has the ladders as well as POE.

The issue isn’t the fact that ladders and seasonal releveling is being introduced, it’s the fact that they’ve nerfed content until it’s a slog, introduced backhanded methods despite having a successful trackrecord with the remnants of D3 by introducing a fun arcade farming simulator, and garnered the attention of new players all over the world who are in the midst of everything being destroyed.

It cannot be healthy for a game to have a new farming video for exp every other day.

Combine that with the fact that moderators and developers purposefully obfuscate their nerfs and there’s a series of loud mouthed echo-chambered man children who can’t accept the fact that chase items so rare that you’re likely to win a lottery in your life time before obtaining one is bad in a game where those things CANNOT be traded, and you get this garbage.

I have played D2 and 3 and have stood behind Blizzard for decades.

I’m not going to pretend that ladders are the only way and I’m not even in favor of removing them. But why can’t older players understand and see that the actions of Blizzard leading up to the preseason have caused this absolute mess of an opinion where now new players dread the idea of touching seasons?

And yes, I know there’s exceptions to that statement but my irl group of friends – small sample size – all more or less quit after the nerfs and revelation of leveling new characters. On the other hand, I run one of the largest XIV guild/RP discords and the brute of people there are back on XIV or playing 16.

If they had not nerfed the fun out of the game and continued to promote enjoyment regardless of their garbage vision, people may have been happier to try ladder.

Considering the fact that they’re monetizing season passes, this is a big L for Blizzard.

Stop blaming new players and casuals for garbage implementations. As if this game does any favors to respect your time in the slightest.

Edit:

And for those that want to make claims about respecting time – look at the systems. Stevie freaking Wonder can see how much they do not do this: They made legendaries untradable (which they could have kept the age old system of them being tradable at least in parties you’re in)), they’ve bloated the ever living heck out of aspects and you can’t remove imprints. God forbid you imprint incorrectly then you’re sacrificing the item. I have only ever had 4 Umbral rings. I’ve got 2 almost 3 level 100 characters – so don’t talk to me about obol farming because I’ve sunk more obols into the game than most people can divide by.

Furthermore, the inventory space forces you to do unnatural things such as create alts. The cost of respeccing and refarming aspects becomes a huge hindrance later on. The average person is not saving up hundureds of millions of gold. If you get a good item you’re at the whim of luck before hitting downright disgusting levels of reroll costs.

My BIS gloves on Barbarian, absolutely perfect in every way were TWENTY FREAKING MIL per reroll before I got +4 HOTA.

I speed farm NM 80 on my Rogue and Necro within 3-4 minutes and have maxed out every glyph to 21 on those two characters. My barb is heading to 100 and I’ll do the same there. Do you want better gear? Farm freaking Burrows. NM has dropped me dog crap. I’ve got NM 100 clear on Rogue AND on Necro.

I was in sale groups for Uber Lilith for three freaking days and got not a single piece of usable gear.

When your end-game doesn’t even respect your time with better drop rates, increase aspect % stats being favored higher. When the best way for you to farm gear is to literally go to Burrows/Demise – not even HELLTIDE. Helltide Mystery Chests are a garbage waste of time. Do the events, farm the obols, and get your EXP then open chests for rerolls/upgrades.

They don’t respect your time.

They want to drip feed you the QOL changes and get praise for listening to you.

Edit: Just take a freaking look at the Sanctuary discord, which is infested with EpicNPC/G2G/PlayerAuction RMTers. Look at all the people “buying” boosts instead of “playing” the game.

At some point they’re going to realize “this isn’t what I want to do.”

The moderators on Sanctuary discord can’t even be arsed to include a base level or two requirement for trading because the traction into the game from the Discord is a positive and they’re happy it’s “so successful.”

I tried to sell some items I found and the sheer amount of “I’ll cashapp you $” and so I reported with pics and guess what? The guy is still in the Discord.

This is the reality new players face.

There are tons of casuals quitting which are the majority of the playerbase, yes. He may be wrong in his statement but the reality is that casuals outnumber you.

No one will make you do anything. Don’t play seasons if you don’t want to. Problem solved

Don’t think anyone expects them to scrap seasons. The most we can hope for is that they acknowledge that a large part of the playerbase has no interest in redoing what we have already done with the game’s current state and they take the steps to fix this game.

People will say stuff like “PoE was not great at the start as well!” and you know what PoE did not do? Start running seasons from day 1. Seasons did not start on PoE until they had found a solid starting point.

As long as the battle pass works the way it currently does that is not an acceptable answer. Thats like if CoD would start up a fresh server for every battlepass and you could only unlock them if you started fresh every season and suffered through the early stages time and time again.

man every single person crying about not wanting the reset and just want more endgame content have no clue what is happening. so let me shed some light.

season starts we get new content. items, mechanics, quests, dungeons.
-at the same time people on teh eternal realm also get the new items and aspects. just not the seasonal mechanics.

your eternal realm characters are not getting reset or deleted and you are getting all the new items as well. so if you dont want the reset then dont play the season easy as that.

for the endgame. once a season ends if the new mechanics where good and people liked them they get moved and incorporated into the game. further more with each season comes new bosses and challenges and GUESS WHAT THAT DO GOES TO THE ETERNAL REALM. so stop complaining and and give them time to add things to the game. and in the mean time DONT! take away use normal arpg players fun. this is a ARPG season reset have been around in almost every single other arpg for 20+ years. so this is nothing new.

Fantastic point.

Furthermore, I do not think the crux of the problem is starting fresh. I think it’s the implementation of nerfs and garbage bloated systems which is causing new players to be wary of seasons.

Most of my friends who’ve quit dread it because leveling became unfun.

What is killing me is people ignoring the FACT that seasons kept this series alive for 20 years.

They are literally suggesting taking the only thing people keep coming back to Diablo for away. It’s absolutely insane.

I’m starting to buy into the paranoia that some of these people are trolls paid by competitors to wreak havoc.

The battle pass is optional. Deal with it. It said it on the page when you purchased the game

they did not start from day one because the game was still in alpha and beta. and even after the game officially release the campaign was not fully out. once teh campaign fished they started seasons. and guess what. from season 1 it all resets. Diablo 2 all seasons reset. Diablo 3 all seasons reset. this is nothing new and what makes this game fun. if it where not for the seasonal resets i probably would never play these games. the resets are core to the game. and so is seasons.

All you’re seeing is “remove seasons.”

You don’t comprehend further because you’re wanting to react to a statement.

If you call Diablo 3 after it’s massive playerbase drop “alive” then you’re delusional.

Furthermore, D2R is a different breed of monster because niche communities continued to enjoy this masterpiece for decades to come but that doesn’t necessarily mean that it’s alive.

Last but not least, the problem is not “remove seasons.”

The problem is, “It’s been a slog to level my character and I worked hard for these items but I am scared of having to do that again because it’s become very unfun.”

So, naturally, don’t you think instead of saying offhanded nonsensical comments about “keeping these games alive for 20 years” you can start by continuing to promote FUN in the game?

Diablo didn’t start seasons on Day 1 either.

D1 - No seasons

D2 - No seasons until 2003

That’s where seasons started 2003. And they literally saved the series.
