Do you mean items in your inventory/bags? That would be a massive bug, report it.
Or items on the ground? That means you joined your group leader’s shard and left your own shard with your items behind. Bad luck.

Unfortunately there is no in-game support for Diablo games. They will not be able to restore any lost items for you. It does not matter why they vanished.
If you sold something you have a limited buy back window. Anything salvaged is gone for good. Double check your bags and Stash in case you switched them out.
Otherwise, your only option is to report it as a bug on the Bug Report forums. That won’t get your items back for you, but it does get the bug report to QA. Include the exact steps taken that caused them to vanish, and the names of the items if you can remember. At least give the slot that vanished.
