I am on steam, this used to work fine, and suddenly didn’t work after yesterday.
I used to invite people to party (or they would invite me) and then we could trade. Just right click their name in trade, and then invite to party.
I have relogged, rebooted, turned cross play off and on again.
I uninstalled Diablo 4. I disconnected my battle.net account from my steam account.
In trade chat I right click their name and “Invite to Party” is greyed out.
When I hover over it, it says “This player is not in game”.
It says that for EVERY SINGLE PLAYER.
No one can invite me as a friend, or invite me to a party.
We have to be on the same screen to interact, at which point we can trade.

Exactly the same issue here, would be interested in a solution
Same problem, also on steam…
Has anyone managed to solve this?
I’m having the same issue.
The weird thing is, I also own the base game on Battle.net (same account), and invites through chat do work if I play via Battle.net.
It’s only when I play through Steam (base game + expansion) that if I right click anyone in chat (including Steam players) the “Invite to Party” option is greyed out, and hovering over it says “This player is not in game”.
Basically exactly what OP has stated.
Edit:
Forgot to mention that I have cross play enabled and all that.
I am online on Steam, and have made sure that my status is set to “Online” ingame (in the character profile settings.)
So not sure why it just won’t work on Steam =/
Would really appreciate any help.
Oof. This is why I don’t use diablo trade. Play self found. Much more fun. Sounds like you traded with someone who’s doing nefarious things and are now suspended on trade. Avoid diablo trade next time.
