There are thousands of bad games out there. Hundreds of thousands actually. I don’t see you posting on their forums for a month about how trash they are, or playing them for dozens or hundreds of hours
No… you simply don’t engage with them at all. I hate to tell you this, but you like Diablo IV
You are conflating two different emotions and two different objects:
-The emotions are having passion and enjoyment
-The objects are a franchise and a game (i.e. gameplay, game design, game mechanics)
People are extremely passionate about the Diablo franchise. That is what drives them to the forums and drives them to engage with Diablo 4’s broader ecosystem - the socials, the YouTube videos, the discussions about the game, and providing feedback or just complaining about the game. In general, they have a strong passion to see the game be good.
However, many people are not enjoying the game itself due to the game mechanics, gameplay, or game design. There are many things they do not like about one or many of these things and as a result, they do not like the game.
I said from the first beta, that if this game was named anything other than Diablo 4, it would be a total failure and nobody would play it. The only thing that keeps this game going is the franchise name, and it’s the only thing that keeps people passionate about seeing it improved. If it didn’t have the Diablo name, it would be like all the other thousands of other bad games that you already mentioned.
Those games not got expectations even in the realm of diablo.
You do not expect much from some third party garbage title. YOu get what you can out of it and move on.
To many, seeing a Diablo title in this state is about like having someone take their childhood out behind the woodshed and Old Yeller it. It offends them on a deep level. Something they’ve cared about for a great many years - something to bring them tremendous enjoyment - has been tainted with an incomprehensible level of mediocrity.
They still care about it, and so they give voice to their opinions. They then grow increasingly agitated because those opinions are clearly not being heard, and the franchise they love is clearly circling the drain. Though, to be honest, I don’t think anyone should be surprised. Diablo Immortal already defiled the franchise forever.
People like Diablo Games, people like Diablo 4. Its the best Diablo to date, more people play Diablo 4 than Diablo 2 or Diablo 2R or even POE, check SteamCharts for POE.
Diablo 4 is popular, is enjoyable, is easy to understand and its fun overall. Any casual person can create a fun build and play right away. Other games are too complex and the gameplay fluidity is not so great like Diablo 4. Its my honest opinion, you agree or not i dont care.
You’re actually wrong. I am posting in other forums and I am playing other games for hundreds (thousands) of hours. That said I don’t hate d4, I just don’t find it very enjoyable after the campaign is done. I hope and think they will change and improve the game alot given enough time.
I agree. My theory is that Blizzard execs looked at WoW’s success sometime during D3’s development and after the Blizzard North team left and said “Let’s take what made WoW successful and add that into Diablo.” and this direction carried over into D4. That decision likely involved moving WoW team members over to the Diablo team rather than hiring people with ARPG experience. This has caused all kinds of contention between the direction of the franchise.
