I admit it: Diablo 4 is a flavorless disappointment

I wanted to enjoy this game so badly that I lied to myself and wasted probably one-hundred hours. It quite simply has no charm and is about as deep as a puddle. I even defended the game during my 1-50 experience.

…buy why lie to myself and others. This game is the definition of mediocrity.

I was so convinced to find the appeal of IV but It finally dawned on me, there isn’t any. Something is missing. Something that was very charming about the first three games.

So it was that I began to recall what those things were that had gone missing. What was keeping me away.

Where do I start? The uninspired art style, drab empty world with no uniqueness, combat rivaled by free to play games and a very boring and withheld plot just for starters. It’s quite simply not fun after your first 50 and a few Leggies/Paragon lvls. It’s not that there’s nothing to do, rather, it’s flavorless aesthetically. And has no charming characters. None. They’re all poorly written shells designed to hawk DLC.

Diablo IV is a game with no soul really. No personality and no spirit as a live service. The interface is straight out of your favorite autopilot phone game. The combat falls behind free (and terrible) games like Lost Ark. What is the point of an always online open world when there is no communication with the players besides emotes I’ve never seen someone use?

It’s dark, but it doesn’t lean into that enough. Neyrelle is a Disney character, Lorath is an alcoholic Deckard with less personality and more bass, and the MC is someone who just says things to advance the story and provoke others.

As a single playthrough or for dumb fun this is a passable game and fun with a friend. As a live service multiplayer game, which was precisely where Blizzard’s crosshairs are, it fails in every respect. From boring loot, poor balance, uninteresting copy paste dungeons and PVP for nothing but the sake of saying they have PVP.

I just wanted this to be the Blizzard comeback their fans deserve, but this is nothing more in quality than a slightly above average phone game.

You put over a hundred hours in over 10 days. That’s the problem :joy:

I suppose so. Or maybe it’s just really mid and I wanted really badly to become attached because of its predecessors.

10 hours a day for 11 days straight. Or perhaps one or two days off and even more hours played on your playing days. Yeah. So many no-lifers who are complaining. Perhaps step back for a bit and come back in a few days.

I’m loving this game, yet will start to see the signs of boredom creep in after a few hours of playing. That’s normal. That’s real life calling. Try it out sometime.

It’s probably burn out

But I feel you on the story. When I did sister Octavia story I almost couldn’t believe how good it was. It was like a deep breath of fresh air. To bad it didn’t last long. I honestly cared more for sister Octavia than for nyrelle

Although the others saying this aren’t very kind, I genuinely hope you all are correct. I want this game to succeed–whether or not I’m playing. I’m just not seeing this grandslam major publications are touting. Not even the first 1-50 experience. I just kept thinking to myself if I kept going I’d get to the meaty stuff. Obviously I never found it.

It never is. You have good points but when you are constantly in that mindset it compounds in your head. Take a breath game isn’t going anywhere new season coming out. There’s no race for anything worthwhile anymore.

Hope it helps

Thanks for keeping it real.
I felt the same way. I wanted d4 to be good despite knowing blizz screwed up all their game in the last decade.
I keep telling myself its gonna get good mid to end game but at 75+ t4 it get ridiculously tedious and dumb. Theres no point

Fine. I admit it. You’re absolutely right.

It’s definitely got a good skeleton but the current game has a long road to being good. The people saying burnout will be saying the same feedback as you when they catch up.

Game is nice. It is just itemization that is complete trash. Even D3 one is better. Item hunting simply doesnt exist.

ditto I am really struggling to enjoy it at this point ive spent 4-8 hours a day workdays vs weekends since the early access and just am not enjoying the grind I spent my spare time today catching up and anime and am planning on going back to poe maps tomorrow. I tried createing alts but combo of limited stash space low multiplayer features and boring progression made it unbearable. Will check it out when the “season” starts hope they work on it!

I feel the opposite way about those things.

Not to sound like a professor but can you expand on that? What do you enjoy about the combat? What about the gear and progression system intrigue you?

What characters do you find charming and why?

I like Donan and Lorath. I like that I can move good legendary powers from crappy legendaries to rares with better stats. I like the quests and storytelling. I like the dungeons.

I’m glad you feel this way! How do you feel about the open world?

I like the cellars and orange circle events, and the Legion events. I don’t like the insane mob density in the open world.

Just a pure hate post lmao

seconded, this is the best Diablo game ever released, it has the most depth with the combat and more build variety than any of the previous (unmodded) games have.
