HWMonitor wattage!

I played the game on a new lenovo legion laptop 4080.
I played for 30 minutes. all seems fine with no lag and too much fan noise.
Temp felt good.
I looked at HWMONITOR and the watt looks fine,
But for some reason it shows max value 538W !!!
How is it possible ?
I closed the game for the sake of not killing my laptop.
is it hwmonitor glitch or can be real ?
I am really afraid to play the game.
Thanks !

Is 538W for the GPU only? or the whole system?
Im not running a laptop and never have so im a bit clueless.
Is a 4080 in a laptop the same speccs as a normal 4080? I have a 4080 and playing on 4k it maxes out my 320W GPU limit.

I’m fairly sure it must be a glitch. If your GPU actually received 538W you would not be able to type on the same system right now, it would’ve fried your GPU

Shows cpu too. but only after I checked it.
Is it smart to update the nvidia driver from nvidia website ? or stay with the latest Lenovo one (which is older) ?

No, it would not. These are the spikes people talked before

If your temps are fine, then the power usage it’s reporting is probably a bug. Use HWiNFO64 instead. Failing that, GPU-Z.

There is one version of hwmonitor. probobly 32 & 64 bit on the same installation.
same for HWiNFO

HWMonitor is not accurate. Use HWiNFO and be sure you are looking at the correct sensors. This sounds like the wattage of the entire system or at least GPU and CPU combined, which is well within normal values. I would be more afraid of core and uncore voltages on the CPU and memory.

As for your driver question, I have the best experience with official studio drivers and not game ready drivers. GRD are sometimes more useful when Nvidia releases a quick hotfix for a specific game to address poor performance, but they are not tested for stability as much as studio drivers.

I recommend setting framerate limit in Nvidia panel to 60 or whatever frequency your monitor is.
