Huge framerate problems

After about 15 minutes of getting consistent frames it suddenly drops down to 10-15 frames for no particular reason. I don’t understand why it’s happening and it makes the game unplayable. It could be a RAM issue?- although I have 16 GB ram. I have an amd ryzen 7 with a NVIDIA 1650 super. Is this a hardware problem?

Three possibilities come to mind:

  • You are having the same problem a lot of others are, with running into VRAM texture swap issues.

  • You have some settings to tweak if you haven’t tried adjusting anything yet.

  • Or the GPU/CPU are throttling themselves to protect themselves from damage due to too much heat or power issues.

As for the first, there has been no solid fix, and only a handful of things that might have helped or seemed to help.

For the second, well, you need to lower graphic settings to at least High, set an FPS cap to 60FPS, turn off Nvidia Reflex, and make sure you are using Windowed Full screen. Also try having Battlenet exit completely when playing a game. You can set that in the bnet options or right click and exit it after launching the game.

For the third, you need to have a temperature monitor and you wanting to look at the Hotspot temp. That card probably won’t have a temp monitor for the VRAM chips, but the Hotspot is a close second. The Memory is usually within 5C of the Hotspot.

If that Hotspot is above 85C, then we need to look into cooling the card better. You may want to check for dust and pet hair.

Power connections, makes sure you have dedicated cables to the card. No 6 wire cable and piggybacking going on. One cable for each port. I think that card has either a single 8 pin or one, maybe two 6 pin, if I’m not mistaken. They should each have their own cable, and have the same number of wires in the cable as the number of pins on the connector. (some power supplies use a 6 wire cable and add a 2 wire pigtail to one pair to make 8 at the connector, others might put two connectors on one cable both for 6 and 8 pin cables) please don’t use these on your system. Always dedicate cables for each GPU connector.

Good luck.
