Huge fps drops and stuttering in Diablo 4 & Vessel of Hatred

Agreed. The rubber banding hitting me tonight is insane. I can go maybe, MAYBE, 30 seconds until SNAP back to reality.

I have found some slightly better stability by updating all video card drivers - fresh install & resetting video options to default.

but what gets me still is I get better performance if I choose the Intel XESS over the Nvida DLSS … I have a RTX 2080 Super.

That makes some sense since it would probably run the DLSS better on the 561.09. We know the 566.xx drivers are having performance issues, and in some cases introducing various problems.

I’m also suggesting that people don’t use the geforce experience app on that version.

I was having huge problems with lag my fps drop to 0 everytime a monster walked on screen. I reinstalled windows today and wiped my SDD clean and installed D4 and now everything works perfect.

Yup, same here.

For a game that requires a frenetic pace and tons of enemies on-screen at the same time, this kind of performance makes the experience pretty terrible. It’s gotten to the point I’m actually not enjoying fighting big packs of enemies.

I’ve noticed this too. It’s almost as if DLSS isn’t working at all, the performance remains the same from Quality to Ultra Performance, and I hardly see any visual degradation. I don’t think its actually working.

So … After almost one month of release this thread devs still did nothing to improve performance for many of us? Or I’m wrong? I came back after nearly a week of not playing this game and performance is still the same when I faced that first time. Lord have mercy…

This fixed my issues. Thank you!!! It was driving me nuts. Like you, I have a high end gaming desktop <1yr old and the screen started shuddering like it was having seizures and everything was super blurry. It’s now playable again. Thank you!

I’m happy (fairly) to report that, graphically at least, the game seems to be running OK on my PC now, finally. Not sure which patch did the trick, as I’d given up trying regularly, but I’ve played a couple of times in the last few days and it seemed OK - playable at least. The audio is still prone to sound crackly with large mob packs, which it didn’t do pre-VoH, but maybe a fix for that too will come eventually. I have to say, though, that I feel pretty disgruntled that it took Blizzard so long to address this. I most likely would have bought VoH by now, were it not for all these problems … not sure I ever will now.

Same issues for me, spent a few hours trying to get the game to be stable.

same here tryed alot of stuff and no chance you play like 30mins then from nothink fps drop from 70 to 1 frame and 20sec later back to 70 for awhile…

Still no fix for that. This game is broken af and nothing is helping. Can’t play even a few minutes withouth massive drop and lag spikes.

Hello DTMAce, Thanks for the recommendation to set the min/max for the swap files. I must have missed that post a while back, but it definitely has fixed my FPS Rate issues. Before I adjusted it the FPS Rate was all over the place and it would drop when there was a big battle. Now everything is great played for a little over 2 hours and never had the FPS Rate drop. Thanks again for all the help you have given.

The SWAP file workaround helped for a few days, always comes back, though.

What is odd, is that it’s such a “simple” fix, and so many people with high RAM GPUs are having this issue, you’d think BLIZZARD would do something about it.

I mean, it’s unplayable when it comes back. It’s a blurry, choppy mess on an RTX 4090…

Just terrible for a game like this to be ignored. But oh yes… keep working on season content. sigh

You may be having other issues. If you can get me a copy of your latest fenrisdebug file and I can review it to see if there’s any settings that might also help. You can use pastebin.com to share a copy of the text from one of those debug files.

I’m also experiencing random stuttering, I haven’t played D4 in months and reinstalled it and got VoH, never experienced issues before but now it stutters occasionally or freezes for a few seconds.

Windows 11 24H2
i7 12700K
RX 7900 GRE (went back to 24.10.1 from 24.12.1 due to Adrenaline app crashing occaisonally)
32GB RAM (16GB swap)
Game installed on PCIe5 NVME (had to add -disableds for it to not crash)
1440p 165Hz HDR, tested 165 fps and 82 fps with AFMF 2

Increase your swap to 24 or 32GB.

16 may not be enough with VoH.

Nevermind, it’s already at 32GB, I just checked.

Turn off Distortion & Chromatic Aberration and see if those two help. (chromatic is new)

Have you tried disabling “Auto HDR” within Windows?
