How to get enough armor?

I’m playing druid, and I have like 5500 armor without buffs. I’m trying 90+ ND and I got oneshotted by some melee monsters.
Some people write that they have like 13k armor, but how to get that amount?

I have two unique armor pieces: helpet and pants, so there are just body piece to get more armor. Or I can roll +%to armor on boots?

% armor can be found on helm, Chest, Pants and Amulet I think.

Pants and Helm are busy already - they are unique. So chest and amulet…

on top of that you can use elixers for additional armor, also you might be able to find armor bonuses on your paragon board as well. Disobedience aspect also provides extra armor when fighting and most commonly added to amulets for higher percentage.

Druid you can also get armor while in werewolf or werebear form on your amulet and I believe boots. You can also roll total armor % on your chest if you’re not using one of the uniques and total armor % on your pants. On my werenado druid while in wolf form I have like 12k armor so with a potion and an incense I’d be at cap.

You will probably want to remove your uniques and equip items with armor %. Stop believing that uniques are must-equip items. I don’t even use Uber Uniques

This is a really good advice. If you followed a build guide, they often don’t mention that with non-perfect rolls you might be better without uniques. Unique armor pieces typically have very poor affixes for armor% and dmg reduction.
Note that armor is exponentially good until you reach the maximum cap for the enemy level, which is something like ~13400 for max level 154 mobs and only slightly less for NMD 90 lvl 144 mobs. Dead druid does zero dmg, so sticking with glass cannon build usually gives worse results than more tanky build in clear speed.

I reach the cap with my Wiz by having armor roll on amulet and chest piece if I remember correctly. Then I have Disobedience on amulet, which I need to stack very fast to max stacks to avoid one-shots. I have also some high damage reduction rolls.
Until I got got my medium ok gear, I needed to have more armor rolls.

I found huge +% armor bonus for werewolf form on boots.

Armor% on everything should not be basically mandatory because of AoZ but it is. This is poor design on their part. Its really dumb AF.

Just some of the basics:

  • Look for bonus % armor on every item type that allows it
  • Socket skulls in jewelry - gives a very significant armor bonus
  • Aspect of Disobedience - increases armor when you deal damage
  • Aspect of Might (20% DR when you do basic attacks - doesn’t add armor directly, but you want to survive, yes?)
  • And of course, defensive skills, paragon nodes and glyphs can add armor or DR

You can’t always go all out on offensive power and expect to survive, at the higher levels you must invest in HP, armor, DR, resists etc. Yes, that means sacrificing DPS for defense, but ye olde rule is as relevant as ever - you can’t DPS when you’re dead.

That’s hilarious and I didn’t even know that :joy:

Thank you guys for responses. Let’s how this will work in S3.

Your resistances should be maxed. I was getting smacked around until I got a good pair of 40 resistance to 3 of the damage types. Then, I jist gemmed up my rings to make up for the one I didn’t have. Also, you must have the armour increase aspect.

You need to get decent amount of armor first, than you can think about replacing items with unique. Not the opposite.

Well you can, but than come IK from mobs. Decent Itm powa + at least 2 or probably 3 +%armor is mandatory for every single build.

You don´t have to have that, its good addon till you have decent gear but its unrealiable and my class was capped without it.

I have maxed resistances, still was oneshotted in 90+ dungeons and Zyr challenge (by bosses). With extra armor I was able to finish 90+ dungeon. Still oneshotted in Zyr’s.

Have you tried increased armor affix on helm, chest and ammy? That helps too. Also, there are paragon nodes that reduce damage. Take some of those until you see your survivability get better.

everyone should run aspect of disobidience when doing NMD100, are you using one ?

I had armor everywhere except unique helm and pants.

the basic is a bit more complicated for armor, or some would say retarded.

It basicly boils down to either stack armor till cap. which then provide a good chunk of ehp, but only the last 1k-2k armor is that valuable. If you stack only a bit armor its basicly useless. Or you completely ignore armor, and stack as much dr as you can. This tactic was used for sorc in aoz, since it frees an aspect slot, cause in the armor variant disobedience was a must include.

What this means in terms of stacking dr is always a good investment, regardless if you stack armor or not. It always provides decent ehp values, and is outclassing life or armor at almost any point in the equation.
