How much of the eternal realm do you need to complete to play seaaonal

New to Diablo 4 have eternal character finished act 1 and 2. Went in today and was asked to make new seasonal character which I did but so far I have no idea what the new campaign is. Was I supposed to complete entire game first to play seasonal? Sorry just not sure what they mean by complete the campaign on eternal. Thank you

Hey Wild Rage

The Season is a chance to play the campaign over again with some twists. In Diablo 3 it was one of may quality of life improvements they added to allow you to keep playing the game and find new content and interesting things.

So a Seasonal Character must complete the Campaign before they have access to the full Season Modifiers.

Unless you had a character who completed the campaign in Eternal Realm. Then you have the option to “skip” the campaign and jump into a “post campaign” game state.

Basically whatever you unlocked with your highest ranking Eternal Realm character, map wise and Altars of Lillith Wise, these locations and Altars of Lillith should be already unlocked for any Season Character you start.

So even though you haven’t completed the entire campaign in the Eternal Realm, you’re welcome to start a Seasonal character. When the Season is finished your gear unlocks will transfer over to the Eternal Realm.

Hope that helps.

Seasonal content begins after you complete the campaign.

You can complete the campaign on your eternal realm character (since you already have made some progress there) then when you create a new seasonal character you can check the box to skip the campaign and get straight into the seasonal stuff.

The new story is post campaign, so if you have beaten the main scenario already you can simply opt to skip it when making your seasonal character and jump right into the new story.

You also need to log on to your eternal character (s). with the most progress so that your map and altars of Lilith carry over (along with the renown for those)

Thank you for your prompt reply and explanation so by campaign the mean every act in eternal realm not just one act?. So I need to continue with my eternal character to the end of the game all 6 of 7 acts before I can do the campaign in seasons? I only have the stronghold in Kon Dur to finish act 2. Also do you need to do all the side quests to or just the main acts?

Hiya WildRage.

The Campaign is finished when you’ve completed all the Gold Highlighted Objectives on your map.

That takes you through the Lillith story arc.

When you look at your map and see stuff like “Locations”, “Strongholds”, “Altars of Lillith” etc… these are actions that you take to give you Renown. If you press Y (Or whatever the 12 o’clock button is on the PS) while looking at the map you see the Renown Rewards. When those conditions are satisfied you can claim them. You get Gold and Level Points and Max Obels increases etc…

If you complete the Campaign with a single character you’ll unlock a lot of renown simply by playing. Depending on how much you’ve unlocked when you start a new character there may already be a handful of Skill Points to allocate to that new character.

Your new Seasonal Character will start from scratch though however, as mentioned above, location unlocks and Altars of Lillith discoveries will carry over to your seasonal character.

It’s worth pointing out that Season 1 lasts for 88 days.

That means you can complete the Campaign with your eternal character, discover lots of the map and Altars of Lillith… THEN start a Seasonal Character… and all those unlocks will carry over, even if it’s halfway through the Season.

Before you can start seasonal content you must complete the main campaign (ie, all of the acts must be completed).

You do not have to complete side quests. In fact, you have to recomplete the side quests in the season anyway for renown. Thus you might want to skip side quests on your eternal realm character. The same goes for strongholds - those are things you will need to repeat in the season for renown.

You do not need to complete the altars or exploration, either. However, unlike side quests and strongholds, any altars/exploration you do complete on eternal will transfer to seasonal. You will still have to visit each waypoint to unlock it, but if you have already done so on eternal, they will be marked your map (except the ones that appear in strongholds after you complete them).
