i am convinced more people actually dont want to redo things every few months… but they only do it because they just follow where the players are.
so lets pretend whenever blizzard releases new content… it is released seasonally AND eternally…
would you still play seasons?
do you only play seasons because you go where the most players are? if most people played legacy and new content was released on legacy would you play seasons?

I enjoy the reset, character building and progression that comes with the seasonal cycles, so I would always choose seasonal play over eternal realm.

but you can make a new character in eternal…

They’ll never admit it, but yes. It’s one thing when there are ladders and leaderboards, but few of us interact with Gauntlet.
It’s a following thing and often for whatever reason makes many of them feel “superior”.
Seasonal just makes the inevitable “let’s redesign the fundamental systems again” more tolerable. You’re farming entirely new gear vs. realizing you have to refarm the necklace you already had for the 3rd time.

I dont mind the reset. Its all about the transmog from the battle pass. Thats the true end game.

Exactly. Just remake and delete after. Unless you like the affix hunt for some reason.
In my opinion, there is not enough to do WITHOUT playing seasons. I don’t know what people spend their time doing on eternal for months and months, when most people can complete a season in a single month.

I play seasons because that is where the best content is and playing fresh characters with new and fun mechanics is the best way to experience them.
Your entire premise is also backwards. Seasonal play isn’t popular because of the number of people in the realm. The seasonal realm has more people in it because it is more popular due to the new mechanics, etc.

Except for Season 4 and Season 5 yet there’s still more players active in Seasonal Server. There has to be something else that gets people into Seasonal Server.
this is a theoretical and assuming all content and new content is released on eternal the same as seasonal.

I 100% play seasons because that is my preferred mode. A fresh start is the best way to play. If I didn’t get a full reset every 3 months I don’t know why I would play.

but WHY do you play every season? the new content…
if new content was released on eternal at the same time would you still play seasonal?
You have the seasonal reputation/mothers gifts, cosmetics/BP rewards. Seasonal is just overall a more complete experience, with or without a seasonal “gimmick”.
as stated…
assuming all that stuff was also on eternal… would you still play seasonal
can you people read… this is a hypothetical question… and you have to assume all content as also on eternal.
so far all of your answers have proved me right.
you all keep saying “i only play cause new content” and i said all new content is on eternal

If new content was just cycled on eternal every 3 months, then eternal would be the new seasonal. It would be the same as keeping your old character every season in seasonal.
100% yes. I like the seasonal reset of all the collections, codex, waypoints, etc. I wish they would reset more: fog of war the entire map, start with no waypoint except Kshad (or whatever waypoint makes sense for the seasonal theme), reset Renown. Reset it all. I want to start out with a knife and a prayer.
Otherwise you end up blowing through the new content in like 5 hours.

I bring about this analogy every time this subject comes up.
Seasonal players like making model cars from kits. Eternal players like making real cars they plan to drive. That’s all you need to understand. There’s no giant mystery, no underlying issue.
Some of us have no issue creating something, admiring it for a little bit, then putting it on a shelf. On the flip side others like to keep what they create for longer periods, which is perfectly fine. By all means, keep that maxed out character on Eternal completing Pits, Dungeons, Hordes, helping friends, etc. It’s a video game, it has a finite lifespan for the player.
No game lasts forever, and you will eventually get bored of it, the question is when. Doesn’t mean you won’t go back and replay it, but there will come a time when you don’t play it nearly as often, and then not at all. For Seasonal players, new seasons breathe new life into the game from a fresh start perspective. Eternal players who want to keep their progress obviously don’t like this perspective. Neither side is wrong.
Now what we shouldn’t be doing is attacking each other for playing differently. That’s just absurd when both sides want the game to get better.

I dont mind it. Games designed for casual gameplay. It doesnt take long to do anything.
Hopefully bliz starts releasing seasonal theams that are exciting. The gimmiks in S1-S3 were fun. S4 holy bolt elixers were spicy but S5 had nothing.

Yes I would.
I am bored when my class is finished. I like the journy and dopamine hits from drops.

I enjoy leveling my character every season because I find joy in it. You will see your character improve and get stronger day by day…
Sorry! I will still play seasonal. But if the game supports both Seasonal and Eternal mode, it should satisfy both sides.
