How many equipped Uniques is too many?

I have a conundrum that i reckon lots of other ‘middling’ players like me probably have.

I have uniques that seem objectively better than the legendaries i have equipped, but if i equipped them all it feels like i would be trimming away at my stackable optional stats. Ill toss out examples.

I’m a Chain Lightning Sorc with Axial Conduit equipped and tons of mana regen stacked. Ive leaned in heavily to Ice Armor and barriers and maintain 100% barrier uptime on the content Im running (140 Hordes, 150 Pits)

I found a Godslayers Crown with a max roll (60%) and a GA.

My current helm has
Int
Max life
Armor
Max life
Barrier generation

Barriers scale off max life, so i would lose a sh1tton of barrier power and survivability.
Id have to move the Armor to somewhere to stay capped.


I found a Tyrael’s Might. As i understand it, the 15% bonus to Max Resist would cut my current capped magic damage taken in half? That seems huge.

But i would lose
Int
Max life
+Ice Armor
Max life
Barrier generation

Same problem as before. But 50% reduction to magic damage and 20% reduction to all damage seems worth it … and im always at full health.


Fists of Fate rolled with 2GA and a max roll on the Aspect (300%). By my math, this is a full 50% damage increase.

But i would lose
Int
Crit chance
+chain lightning
Shock crit chance
Barrier generation

Thats a ton of dps to give up for … a ton of dps.


Ive already got the Axial pants must have.

But then i have the unique boots that convert move speed to crit chance - and i assume im going to have to drop those for a regular legendary.

I have a talrasha for 80% increased damage (but had to give up mana regen for that)

What happens if i find a ring of starless sky?
A doombringer?

But im paralyzed by my wealth of options and i assume im not the only one confused and directionless.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

being that i have 3 stash tabs full of uniques right now, I’m kind of at apoint where they should be used or more useful.

Right now I am using 3 uniques on my druid. I need the aspects ive got for the rest of the gear. I say as many as you can use without losing the role of your build.

Really depends on how you want to play. My sorc runs 6 uniques, my Rogue runs 3. They are pretty close in power. As powerful as the uniques can be, sometimes the legendary aspects are too valuable.

sorcs for sure are pretty unique hungry ^^

The only unique i think i have on my sorc is Axial Conduit. She is a walking conduit shrine with that thing.

Unfortunately, that’s the nature of the beast… gotta have that DR otherwise, a leaf falling from a tree will kill us.

I dont know what i did but somehow i built a tank sorc. the only thing that really kills her are those unseen one hit kill attacks. My druid has gotten to the point he can survive them, she is still weak to them but survivable to most other things.

My rogue is running 6 uniques. If I could make it work I would run all uniques just so I don’t have to temper.
With that being said throw on the uniques and see if you can make the build work. Worst case you go back to your legendary

I got six on my sorc. Only using crafted chest, arms and staff.

I have 5 equipped. 3 Ubers and 2 uniques. I’d say as long as they aren’t taking functionality away from your build it’s all good.

A “build” should account for both DPS and survivability, with armor and all res capped out so easily, it brings people to use damage reduction as the defensive aspects or increase life as a surrogate to damage reduction.

Of course, it could just be hey, you are all powerful now so enjoy.

Granted we have no need for gems with our jewelry if you run a shako and tyrael.

Yea absolutely. That’s why so many people fail at this game and whine on about being one shot.

Why are people still acting like Sorc don’t have multiplie good defensive aspects/passives and are squishy?

Sorc can do T8 horde without losing life even once because they have extremely good DR when properly geared and easy barrier generation.

They really should not have Unique items in the game that enable builds period. Although not very interestinf, Mythic Uniques are fairly well-designed and for the most part balanced. Stuff like Third Blade, Fields of Crimson, Arreats Binding, 100,000 Steps, Overkill, Hellhammer should be part of the Skill Tree, Aspects, or Paragon. It is very stupid to have Unique items that enable builds (and not even that good of ones) and then have so many layers of RNG on the item.

If they keep Unique items as-is, ghe actual Unique effects should not have ANY range. Only the Affixes should be RNG. Many Uniques are borderline worthless if certain Affixes are low or minimum rolls and having the “Unique Aspect” also have a range to them is just bananas level of stupid.

My gripe though is not even being able to play the build you want unless you have a (or in certain cases) multiple Unique items.

Depends on the build.

There are actually viable builds with just 2-3 legendaries. Some are more aspect heavy.

There isn’t really a number of too many, just depends if you are sacrificing aspects/tempers you need to function or not.

You use fist of fate for the massive massive lucky hit mostly while also inflicting all CC. Its an insane boost to lucky hit. And a damage boost without losing anything. Its why its one of the most sought after items in the entire season right now.

Im chain and spear hybrid (locran max mana combo with 3x axial GA and crits on resource and max mana) and I use all uniques except 3 slots. 1 Glove (cant find good fist) and focus and sword. I have uniques in every other slot and it works well.

Doomy isnt a good weapon for sorc in my view.

Esu boots are just way too op with it basically adding 40% crit chance but u have to evade spam. I hate that these boots lost mana reduction and gained a useless all resist stat.

Tyrael Might needs a nerf its just too good. Its about BiS for everyone in every build. I got one with 3 crits damage resist as I am sorc with tal so we get more max resists with tal ring and dont need crits on max resists and Im basically invulnerable.

Shako as well. The CD is too high and damage reduction and +4 all skills and life and armor? Way too good. No other helm can compete.

Tal Rasha is also just a must have. 80% damage boost. You just have to run a poison or shadow damage source like you can craft on weapons.

Ring of Starless is 50% damage and reduced cost and nice stats with attack speed, crit, lucky hit, core skills. Everything good here. Lego ring has hard time competing with that.

Axial Conduit I love the design but I think the 6 mana is too punishing. This should be 3 or 4. Its a fun pants but what other key aspects has huge negatives?

Winterglass is going to be nerfed after season end. Ive seen ppl with +10 conjuration mastery on it. So broken.

All I’m saying is that sorc don’t use uniques for defensive purpose except Tyrael’s Might.

To answer your initial post, Tyrael’s Might damage reduction can be further increased by masterworking. Generally you want masterwork crits on max res and DR with 2-1 or 1-2 distribution.

Tyreal’s Might is the best defensive armor currently in the game.
