How long until Paladin?

Because they didn’t want to do it again. They want to try something new.

I don’t get how this is such a difficult concept for people to understand.

By the sound of it, seems like VoH is getting a witch doctor, so a while longer.

They said it is NOT the WD. It is something new something we have never seen before.

Maybe the offspring of WD and Amazon, since it’s set in the jungle (Kurast)?

Maybe we will know soon (Blizzard soon that is).

Don’t remember if it’s an old campfire or a presentational video but i’m 100% sure they said they are aware of players asking for a holy class, and this will be the next after spiritborn, probably the second DLC late 2025/2026.

Well, if it’s done well, and enough different from druids, it’s fiiiine. I just main druid already, and a 2nd druid would be a bit lame

They are so boring and such cowards.

That’s your opinion. My opinion is different. Have a good day.

They were not Paladins and I guess if you understood the lore a little more than just skin deep that would be obvious.

As for anti-religion themes, it says more about blindly following a cause rather than choosing your own path. Angels and Dmeons have their own agendas. The light is clearly an element that can be utilised in the setting. Just need to add some free will into the cauldron.

Who and when - reference?

If you read the OP it was clear Paladin was a placeholder for any light/holy type class. My preference would be an armoured knight obviously though.

Feel like that is pure BS and the spread of misinformation. Do you have any evidence of to support this, given most polls have Paladins right up there as a desired next class. Not to mention Paladins in D&D are one of if not the most popular class. Dont have stats on D3 but I would take a punt the Crusader is not the least played class on average.

Eh paladins are horrible in D&D especially. They are so bland. What we need is a Diabloist class.

Another cool idea could be a Destroyer class that is specialised on explosives, bot turrets, traps, etc.

For holy theme, a ranged plate buff-focused class with a giant crossbow and silver ammo could be really cool

That might be your view but doesn’t change the fact in D&D they are a beloved class and that has high representation. The holy/light knight fantasy is a real RPG universe and has been a staple for most games in this type of setting.

I Hope they give the light/holy class some flexibility to allow different playstyles and fantasy.

Basically imagine a holy class with beefy silver armor, and a plated crossbow as tall as the character shooting holy arrows. That’d be valid fantasy option that isn’t seen often. If you wanna go melee, the weapon could transform like scissors into a Lance

Another unrelated idea could be a Tidelord pirate inspired class, that floods enemies with water. If you wanna get creative, I could come up with ideas all day tbh

A “penitent knight” would fit this. But instead of atoning for his sin through serving his Church (like in the storyline), he wants to atone for the sin of his Church which he was a member of. In other words, he’s an ex-Knight of the Cathedral of Light.

He’s still a warrior of Light in his heart but he no longer serves the Church, and perhaps the Heavens by extension. This is the path that he willingly takes.

Since he’s already a broken man burdened by guilt, they could add some darker elements to the character. Free will is the gift of Lilith to mankind, after all, a feature of chaos (and the Darkness by extension).

But he would break his paladin codex, and in dnd that’d turn him into an oathbreaker, i.e. some sort of dark knight. Diablo has another ruleset ofc, but why would the light listen to him, if he abandons his faith?

I think Light is some kind of “spiritual” primordial force, it makes the Diablo universe alongside Darkness. It listens to anyone regardless of their allegiance. Anu might be a (physical) manifestation of these forces.

Nah, sorry, but you must be mistaken. I watched all the dev streams and read all interviews to date and they never mentioned a holy class coming. I am eagerly waiting for one as well, so I would have definitely noticed if that was the case.

My best bet is that we may see one come in the second expansion, or maybe as a standalone DLC (same as the necromancer in D3). If the latter, then we can hope to see the paladin (or some other holy knight type of class) a little sooner.

Gibs is right here, just take BG3 for example, the Paladin was by far the most played class when the game launched.

So like a warrior priest?

“If” blizzard was good at making skill trees they could give your multiple pathways be it sword/spear/hammer and board, Ret 2hander and more of a ranged light caster.

The class is already well designed and they have endless good examples to pull from it make it work. No need to reinvent the wheel with this one.
