Literally. People say “in 3 days”…no. I mean actual play time.
By finish I explicitly mean the seasonal journey.
5-10 hours? Okay, probably a problem.
25-40? That’s longer than the average game takes to beat and it’s something you can do again every 3 months, plus play more if you want to.
Having never played a season in D4, I want to get an idea of what people really mean about seasons being too short, ideally because I think it will shed light on what the actual expectations are and if they’re even remotely realistic.
20 hours season journey and BP was done. Everything self found. Played another 20 hours because I was having fun. Definitely was better then S7.

I’d have to check my playtime, but I want to say I spent less time this season in the game than I did in S7. Which is odd since everything was supposed to be slowed down so to speak.
Fairly certain S7 was 50ish hours. This season was maybe 30ish? I’ll check when I get a chance.
Edit:
43 Hours for S8
53 Hours for S7
That’s divided between 2 hours a night on weekdays, with the occasional longer sessions on weekends, depending. So give or take 3 weeks (with my playing time) to complete what I wanted, which is the seasonal objectives.

Have played more than I thought I would over the last 2-3 weeks. Have not finished the season, & neither expect nor care to. I look at what I’ve done to get to Chapter 5, compare it to what I need to do to get to 6, & say “NOPE.” Having recently got VoH, I’m currently dorking around down there instead.
I don’t keep time, but I can make an approximation. Considering how much time I spend per session on average and how many days I played, this season must’ve taken me about 40 hours. Previous seasons I played for longer, but I was bored early with season 8 and rushed the journey to completion.
3 days is not a reach for some that are Season Junkies because this is all they do and that is to beat the game at any cost quickly as possible. I stopped after season 4 just wasn’t fun since the only way you could complete some of the challenges was to watch the streamers then make the meta build they described to beat the game then just being able to do it causally a few hours a week.

The right metric is obviously hours not days. There are players who will play for 40 or 50 h in the first 3 days of the season and I am not speaking about streamers. Other will barely put that amount of time during the 3 months the season lasts.
I don’t believe it is really possible to give a reliable answer to your question.
How long it takes heavily depends on the build you choose to play. It can be short with the most performing builds of the season or extremely long, even impossible not matter how much time you put with weak or crappy builds.
Playing solo without trading or in a group also makes a significant different.
For me, I believe it was around 50h. I play SSF and not very efficiently.

I’d say took me around 60, not sure… I mean I didn’t finish Destroyer tier but to finish the other 6 took me around 55-60 hours or so…

I didn’t do Chapter 6 Champion 100%. Didn’t wanted to waist gems for crappy rings or amulets. Can you believe that? Did a last character this season and failed short on gems to upgrade my last Glyphs to Legendary, a couple days ago, while being Paragon >260.
Didn’t manage to do Lilith in chapter 7. I am not fast enough to avoid the ground spikes in phase 1. The days I would spend hours practising to defeat a Boss are over.
~70 hours.
45 SC
25 HC
Finished complete season.
The boring feeling because of the repetitive loop right from the get got came earlier then in the last seasons.
150 hours.
Finished SJ eons ago…
Still playing…
