How has tempering not been changed

i’ve played every season and this last season was the shortest i’ve done between starting and quitting. i basically left after the season awards were done. 70% of the reason i quit is legitimately tempering

it’s beyond amazing that tempering has gone unchanged albeit from a couple more charges from greater affixes since it’s inception

you’ve been given tens of different suggestions on helping this very terrible mechanic —

  1. allow the option to keep your current temper instead of the reroll
  2. different charge count for each category (ie 6 for defensive and 6 for offensive)
  3. picking your exact temper and having the randomization be solely for the % with no rerolls
  4. resetting tempering similar to master working
  5. removing charges and have multiplicative material cost increasing per reroll similar to enchanting

why has nothing been done about this nor are there any notes in the expansion about ANY changes to tempering?

does everyone just like the way it is? i seriously can’t play the game sometimes because it makes me so angry

My experience with the forums here and elsewhere, as well as my actual friends that play the game, is that most people don’t like it and a lot of them stopped grinding specifically due to it, this season and the last. I think it’ll get a real fix at some point but they’re really hanging onto that crummy system for a particular breed of grinder right now and they’re having a hard time letting go. I think it’ll change, but it might not even happen with S6 and the expansion at this rate. :joy: :v:

May I suggest you play something else then? No one is forcing you to play something that makes you Angry.

I don’t mind tempering, others don’t mind tempering, others DO. Everyone has a different play style/views about this Hot Topic.

*Yet fear not, for all those who complained to the high heavens, in season 6 you’ll be able to Re roll what ever item you BRICKED via a Scroll (gotta loot hunt for it).

But yes, it sucks to find an item you want to temper just to have it possibly Bricked, but I don’t mind loot hunting for something else…possibly better. I’m playing the game, and loot hunting is part of the game.

Yes, agree

They have different manuals so dont know what this means.

Absolutely not, they already simplifed loot and made it easier to get a 5/5.

There will be a scroll of reset sadly. They should have stood there ground on tempering journy ending.

Naw, items need to either be good or bad. The item being completed needs to end unless they are giving unlimited stash space.

I mean if you understand what the loot system is you likely will be able to cope. Items are incomplete on drop (3/5), all tempering does is complete the item. They made it much easier getting a 5/5.

System isnt perfect but its better then what we had in the past. RNG is also required in arpgs or there isnt a point.

Tempering is the worst. Its a good game with one very important, very crap system

Good point about the RNG. The game is already too easy and they are dumbing up masterwork mats anyway…

devs dont play the game…they design whatever they think will make the player stay… but actually they wont. and when the money stops its only then that these morons will start fixing it.
50 rerolls and 300 mil later i finally got the stat i wanted…its like they programmed the game to not give you the stat thats good for your spec or some absurdly low chance to roll that stat

They will change/improve tempering eventually. Probably. Well maybe.

Apparently, they’ve also changed how resplendent sparks work too next season. I’ll wait for the official patch notes.

Tempering is fine to me. I far prefer it over the old system with its bloat of affixes where you would have to waste countless hours reading each piece of gear in hopes of something useful.
Gearing has never been easier and the trade off is decent.
I also suspect that people are using the term “brick” too liberally. You didn’t roll perfect is not a brick.
I mean you basically have a loot piñata in Helltides, they have introduced more temper chances per GA and now we have the reroll scrolls coming.
It’s like people really just want to log in, hit max level in a day, and have perfect gear at the end of the second day.

:man_facepalming:

Nothing worthwhile is ever easy. And if it is, then how can it be worthwhile?

Not a fan of tempering myself, but also agree with this statement. Even if it is a true brick, loot literally rains from the skies in this game. Less than half my gear is tempered/masterworked and can solo all uber bosses, so having perfect gear isnt needed in this casual game.
While I can surely feel the pain of a 3 GA getting some crap RNG, its not the end of the world especially in d4 as it stands which apparently is getting even easier with s6 and VoH

EDIT: Apparently they are gating scrolls to reset tempering behind mulitplayer dungeon

You can solo all uber bosses? Something is wrong with the design of the game.

Yep, the S4 itemization changes killed loot hunting for me. S5 I just leveled characters to 100 and called whatever gear I had at that point good enough. The moved on to a new character. Made for a really short season.

It’s alarming to me that you want a GG item so easily.
Diablo 4 has the easiest loot hunt imaginable compared to others in the genre.
Is it your goal to just get participation currency, and buy the items you want?
If you don’t have the time to grind, why play a loot hunt game?
Why play games at all if you don’t have the time?

I don’t want GG gear I’m just sick and tired of the QQ gear from tempering. My HC Barb was wearing Sacred gloves from level 42 to 95. Why? Because of the hundred or so Ancestral gloves that dropped maybe 20 were worth tempering and every single one bricked before I got a temper result that was comparable (not better, just close) to the Sacred ones.

What a miserable game mechanic. Again, these aren’t GG… hell, they don’t even have a single GA on them but at least after 53 levels I finally replaced them. The system is poorly designed and while some people enjoy bashing their heads against the brick wall that is tempering not everyone does.

Took me 7 weeks to find a 3ga focus for my sorcerer
Guess what happened
Yep it rolled ball lightning 7 times in a row
Bricked
GG

I don’t understand either why this is not in the game…

I found a perfect triple GA staff on my Sorc and couldn’t manage to roll 1 temper on it. Rolled Overpower damage 5 times in a row. Haven’t logged on since. The grind was already getting kinda boring in season 5 but that just pushed me over the edge.

I wonder if Blizzard has numbers on how many people have logged off and stopped playing season 5 for good immediately after tempering an item.

I am sorry for all of you with the duplicate tempering results.
What I have always done, is grab a throwaway item, temper the two recipes on the item I want to wear, and if it fails them, I roll the throwaway item, until the trend breaks and gives me what I want. Then immediately temper the item I intend to wear.
This is also how you get triple crits master working. When it crits what you want blast that button.
Good luck to you weary Wanderers!

This is most likely the exact reason scroll was made. Temper rage quits. We have all done it.
