How does trade chat work?

Could someone explain to me how trade chat works? My friend was not able to see me talking in it, nor was I able to see my friend talking in it. Is it limited to X amount of players, and not a true global channel?

It’s not Global.
I think (think because I don’t know) they are separated for regions.

Like, all America (North and South) gets on the same rooms.
I’m brazilian and all I see is people from North America.
But they seem limited, as you said.

I don’t believe the game will even try to pair you and your friends on the same room (chat).

Edit.: Also, chat server is different from game server. Meaning, you could be looking at your friend in Kyovashad but in the trade chat, you wouldn’t be able to talk (only on Local).

The missus and I can get on within seconds of each other and be in completely different trade chats. In fact I don’t remember a time we’ve ever been in the same trade channel.

I’ll say something in trade chat, she’ll ask who I’m talking to, and she’ll note the trade chat is dead, or on a completely different subject. No idea how many trade channels there are per region though, or how many people are allowed per trade channel.

Even worse you get all world tiers in the trade channel. You could be in WT2 talking to someone in WT4. Not necessarily a bad thing, but if you’re actually trying to trade higher end items, or even lower end items, your audience is going to be limited.

I love the current state of the game, but there have been some VERY questionable design/implementation choices and this is definitely one of them.
