How does Bloodmark work?

It says if you’re bloodmarked anyone can attack you and you can attack anyone…

But that appears to be true regardless of whether you’re bloodmarked or not, so what am I missing here?

If THEY’RE Bloodmarked - They can attack anyone.
You can choose to defend yourself or run.

Otherwise - Let’s say everyone in FoH is “Friendly” ie. Nobody opted to bloodmark: It’s just another PVE zone.
Think of a Player Bloodmarked as just another Monster and everyone “Green” as your party.

From Maxroll:

Fields of Hatred: Once you arrive you can turn on Mark for Blood to attack other players. You can choose to enter the zone peacefully and simply fight monsters, but any player who has marked themselves for blood can be attacked and attack you freely. You can remove the Mark for Blood at the Altar of Cleansing in town.

Look at it from a different angle. If someone wants to kill you, they can. The only difference is; there is no friendly fire by accident, if both players chose not to active pvp mode.
By going into a pvp zone you sign up for danger already.

This seems broken for me… I bloodmarked myself and found 3 people I couldnt attack and their names were green… i wasn’t in a party…

It’s also bugged, since the description clearly states that you’re not attackable when not Bloodmarked the one sided ability to attack anyone is not working as intended. (Regardless of how it was meant to work, since it has a description on how it should work).

if anyone can turn marked whenever they want and gank, isnt it better to insta mark yourself as soon as you enter?

im not gonna wait to be hit before hitting, sounds like a guaranteed fail lol

unless i’m misunderstanding there’s no point to the system - just mark yourself as soon as youre in that zone.

Anyone that is bloodmarked can already be attacked… and they have to bloodmark to be able to attack you, there is no one side attacking…

if im not marked can i be attacked? if yes theres no point not to mark myself - i’d just be guaranteed not to get first hit.

its crazy how its still not clear lol. what am i missing? make me understand.

i’ll end up having to make a softcore character just to test pvp because people can’t explain it clearly lol

Only by marked players. You can’t be attacked by unmarked players, unless they mark themselves first, and make themselves vulnerable.

Marked players - Can attack anyone. Can be attacked by anyone.

Unmarked players - Can only attack marked players, Can only be attacked by marked players.

I do PVE in PVP zones, and I don’t mark myself, because I don’t want to accidentally attack another player (that isn’t marked themselves).

If you are not marked others that are not marked in the zone cant attack you. If you are not marked and someone else is you CAN hit them. So marking yourself makes it so others that are NOT marked will attack you. It gives you no advantage over an already marked player, it just also makes you a threat/target to non marked players.

The only reason to not bloodmark is to avoid friendly fire situations.

so there’s no point taking the risk to get ganked by surprise from someone marking themselves out-of-nowhere…

then i prefer being marked at all times so theres no surprise.

And to avoid being perceived as an immediate threat to unmarked players.

Sure that’s the gamble I guess. You’re more vulnerable when you’re marked, but if you assume everyone is an enemy you won’t be surprised.

That’s not a bug, that’s just you misreading the tooltip.

Why would you ever NOT assume that someone is an enemy in a PvP zone?

Killing other players is literally the point of going there.

It literally doesn’t matter if you bloodmark yourself or not. If they want to attack you, they’ll just run into your attacks while you are attacking a monster. Once you do any damage to them, they can now attack you at will.

And they will probably be 20 levels higher than you and have friends, because that is how PVP works in this game.

Of all the misinformation in this thread, this might be the worst.

It’s really simple, folks:

If you are not bloodmarked: you may attack bloodmarked players on sight, and bloodmarked players may attack you on sight. Unmarked players can not hurt each other.

If you are bloodmarked: you can attack any player on sight, and any player can attack you on sight – it’s a 2-way street, open season baby. You can open baleful chests.

If you enable your bloodmark out in the field, you immediately (well, it takes a second or two) move to the bloodmarked category and are mutually hostile with everyone.

Reasons to go bloodmarked: you want to kill other players and open baleful chests.

Reasons to stay unmarked: You want to limit your PvP exposure so that only bloodmarked players are a threat. You want to cooperate with other unmarked players to defend yourselves against bloodmarked players.

If there are 10 other players in the field (1 marked and 9 unmarked) and you are unmarked, you have exactly 1 enemy. If you are marked, you have 10 enemies.

Does Bloodmarked by itself show your position on the map? I typically mark myself in order to loot the chests as they have been quite valuable, but I’ve had players beeline to me as if they knew exactly where I was. I didn’t see any indication that I had killed anyone to be Champion or whatever, but it’s possible the bleed did it after leaving the fight.
