How does anyone play rogue without getting arthritis

My doctor told me the pain in my hands is from playing too much video games, i think its because i have to click my attack so much, my wrist hurts all of the time. Does anyone else have this problem i only play 2 to 3 hours a day . I tried switching to minion necro but its not fun i get bored not hitting my button sequences on rogue everytime they cool down and stuff . Its way more exciting and engaging than walking around and just 1 clicking stuff and never dying like hotas barb. I really like to play Rogue but my finger and hand hurt sometimes after. If we could just use macro and not get banned it would be so nice. Please blizzard my doctor want me to stop playing video game but it not fair i like the Rogue

You’re doing it wrong. Move your skills to WASD.

No macro needed. Just use the numlock trick.

Step 1) Go to Options/Controls.
Step 2) Put your numpad numbers in the secondary field.
Step 3) Close the menu.
Step 4) Turn on numlock. Press the corresponding number to the skill you want locked and hold it, then turn off numlock.
Step 5) Repeat Step 4 for any other skill you want locked.
Step 6) Profit.

This will cause your skills to pop off as soon as they’re off cooldown, no button pushing necessary as long as you’re not holding down your mouse button.

I use this with my rogue putting my Imbuement and Dark Shroud on numlock. It makes it much easier on the hands and wrist.

Edit:

Works on necromancer too. Before the malignant ring/heart, I used to put Corpse Explosion and Corpse Tendrils on numlock which had principally the same effect as the ring. Isn’t as necessary now but it did make Bonespear principally a 1 hand build, since you were only hitting Blood Mist and Bone Storm every once in a while.

Yes not even joking. Dr said it caused an RSI injury on my WASD hand. Its not even funny might have to have a corrective surgery. D4 apparently put it over the top.

Go get a decent shoulder and arm massage and you will be fine the controllers for your fingers are in your shoulders so if they get overwhelmed you will feel it in wrist and hands.

I had something similar this sorted it out.

I also adapted by doing minor shoulder weight exercises to work that particular muscle group.

Real problem for sure with high APM. BUT! In current season when BL and HOTA clear faster all you are doing is holding down move button. Gives hand time to recover. Seriously.

I already have it due to age so games can’t cause it. Heh.

Really though any repetitive activity is going to cause wear and tear on the muscles and tendons you are using all the time. Could be playing tennis, typing on a keyboard, hammering roofing nails, or doing the same task on an assembly line. Whatever task it is, the end result can be long term inflammation and damage.

The usual treatment is

  • stop doing the repetitive task to the extent you can.
  • if you still must do it (typing for example) take breaks, stretch your fingers, wrists, arms, shoulders.
  • Sometimes a long break, anti inflammatory medications and therapies can be helpful.

However, for many many people they develop severe enough carpal tunnel syndrome that surgery is required. Anyone who uses their fingers/wrists in a repetitive way is at risk. Some people change hobbies or even careers as a result.

Getting on to it early with correct maintenance is key.

I ride 15 race horses every day and it’s high end wrist strength among other muscles.

Without a massage every 2 weeks no doubt at 52 I would fall apart.

Use a controller. Its so well designed for it its a joy to play using a controller without reservation.

No joke it was d4 that finally made playing on controller a positive experience in my mind. Clicking is so dumb.

I have chronic tendinitis on my right hand (artist problems :[ ) and switching skill placements worked a lot for me.
instead of spamming both right and left click which made my hand hurt, I moved my basic skill to key 1 which I can keep pressed while I spam left click for TB

Have you considered using a controller instead?

Pretty sure the PC version has full support for it. I play on PS5 personally and for the most part it works pretty well. There are some annoying targetting issues but nothing insurmountable

i try and pick builds that i can move with holding down my spender. then I kinda steer around with my thumb with forcemove on the spacebar. death grips is what stopped me playing D3 so much. D4 controls are very easy to configure for bad hands. don’t get too crazy with the num lock trick. I try and stick to jsut 1

I don’t really a lot difference between the Rogue and pretty much any of D 4 toons in play-ability, However the Rogue even as bad as it is was the only one that held any interest for me…The Demon Hunter and the Amazon were and are so much better

This is a condition my friend and i like to call, “Diablo Claw”

It’s appearance means it’s time to take a break.

Damn this guy is healing arthritis thats amazing technique. Numpad tech ftw

-Rogue was my first character this season as I wanted to try a class I had not played.

-I feel your pain. I tried controller, as has been suggested, tried different key bindings, as has been suggested. It’s just still TOO many clicks in rapid succession.

-I’m just 42 but used to work retail and cashier back in the day which gave my hands and wrists a jump start on getting whacked. Of course, I was also gaming during all that. Since my teens.

-I don’t think I will ever play a Twisted Blades rogue again. There are too many other builds of other classes where I can do a lot of damage to MORE things at once with a lot less frantic clicking.

-Do NOT enjoy my gaming experience becoming more limited but it is what it is. whimper

For all the people, who thinks holding down a button isnt taxing for your hands. Get a bit older and try again.

Rogue Gameplay + Controller =
Stressless and comfortable like an extension of your hands.

I have been playing since Diablo 2, and only the support for controllers has allowed me to play again. Had carpal tunnel surgery and now getting into my 70’s I need a wrist brace at times when the weather gets cold. I just cant stop. My bad, love this game. Peace NSA :sunglasses:
