How do masterworking work?

can somebody explain the masterworking formula to me in skills?

Skills are a mess with MW, because players don’t see the decimal. You kind of take a chance on it attempting to get another full +skill to make it apply. Partials don’t.

Current theory is that MW applies to the base value only (outside of GA, even) and must be greater than 0.51. So one MW crit on a +2 wouldn’t result in a +3 when you add in the 5% per level, but two MW crits should.

You get obducite by doing hordes, nightmare dungeons so on then go to the blacksmith and start masterworking

Woods didn’t read properly Ignore that

It’s not a theory that it applies based off the base stat people mathematically determined that

Keep reading. Some are claiming 0.51 threshold, others say 0.55. If you have the data to absolutely prove how it operates, I’ll cease calling it a theory.

best way to check it is to use the maxroll character planner. Just add the item of your choice to your build and masterwork. So far it has always been correct for me.

I remember having seen some spreadsheet that kinda explains it (iirc skills were also seperated by skill tiers, for whatever reason), but honestly, it was too boring to bother with it, hence why im using the build planner.

Really? There’s a lot of calculators around since D2… really! :zipper_mouth_face:

D4 +skills/mw crits and such were always hotly debated. So yes, didn’t know an actual accurate calculator existed.
