When I use the Diablo IV desktop icon, it launches Battle.net, not Diablo. What changes do I need to make so the desktop icon for Diablo starts Diablo and not Battle.net?
Battle.net has it’s own icon.
don’t know about the game icon direct launching (should be a feature), but you can set the battle.net launcher to self close upon launching diablo.exe in the options.
Agreed…steam can launch a game direct, battlenet doesn’t…applies to all games, not just D4.
Still nothing? It can’t be that hard.
This is actually false.
I start Overwatch and Diablo 3 without having Bnet running at all.
You simply setup a shortcut to the .EXE for the respective game and put a -launch command at the end of the target line with a space before it.
However.
Diablo 4 doesn’t work. They took out the option of logging in manually to the game itself.
With Overwatch or Diablo III, I can start the game with this shortcut setup, it will prompt me to login, and as long as the game is up to date, it will launch just fine. All without the battlenet launcher running.
But Diablo 4 gives you an error and closes when you attempt to do the same.
i have a feeling it has something to do with authentication servers and initializing the new CROSSPLAY FEATURE YAY…
i’m just guessing here, but i’d assume they need the launcher to authenticate your account and to start the crossplay comms on pc. probably the new blizz norm
Nope, it’s everything to do with forcing us to see “sales” and promos for Blizzard stuff. Notice how there’s these force to look at things when you launch? Like, I literally can’t push play until I’ve closed some “offer” for a game I don’t even play. That’s 100% the reason we are forced to open Battle.net to play (D2 back in the day would validate Bnet once you were playing).
Some number cruncher inside product/marketing thinks this will push numbers…when it’ll honestly cost them players over the long term who won’t just leave Diablo; they’ll leave Blizzard. Forcing notifications for the store/forcing me to look at things I don’t want on launch just smacks of Immortal micro transactions and everything people fear about Blizzard.
Just stop it blizzard…
Still no solution for this?
(This one doesn’t work, ignore pls.)
Solved.
Start battlenet click the wheel thingy, create a desktop icon for diablo4, then edit the created icon and change the end to this (without dots ):
…Diablo IV.exe" -launch
Not solved.
Your suggestion does not work. The gear option to create a shortcut does not create a shortcut to Diablo IV.exe, but the Diablo IV launcher.EXE.
And -launch does nothing for this.
And if you use the actual Diablo IV.EXE file and add a -launch to it, you start the game, but it won’t log you in and you have to exit.
So no. This does NOT work with D4. And yes, I just tried it again today. Still busted.
Solved again
You are right @DTMAce, this thing worked for one use only, after restart it gave error.
Here is the one I’m using (still not perfect but good enough, it needs battlenet to run but I run it minimized to tray - find this in settings):
Target:
“C:\Program Files (x86)\Battle.net\Battle.net Launcher.exe” --exec=“launch Fen”
Place:
“C:\Program Files (x86)\Diablo IV”
But since you still need bnet running, this is kinda pointless. May as well use the bnet play button.
You use the play button I’ll use the desktop icon.
