I am running an ice sorcerer. In Season 6, I have noticed that when I am firing at a large group, my character fires his ice-shards at multiple opponents. The shards are distributed among the group. This behavior seems new to me in Season 6. I don’t remember it from before.
I also just noticed that sometimes the UI will say “multi-shot” while I am firing like this.
Googling “diablo 4 multishot” gave me articles about “governing stones” and “tuning stones” and “seneschal constructs” from the “Season of the Construct” which I largely avoided. I certainly never got or used a governing stone or a construct. I don’t see any effects applied to any of my gear that would indicate it.
So while this is an interesting feature, I have no idea how I got it. I certainly never requested it. And while I might like to play with it, I also want to be able to to disable it and concentrate my fire on one guy.
Is there a way to do this with a modifier keypress or something?
The skill itself does this if enemies are frozen with ricochets and you want it or your damage will be nothing. Ice Shard enchant will also do this.
There is also an aspect which let them pierce. Make sure you have this as well along with avalanche can trigger more aspect.
Hi, Thanks for the answer.
I do have the ricochet and piercing. But that’s not what I’m talking about here. At least, from how you worded you post, I think that’s not what I’m talking about.
What I mean is when the shards leave my staff initially. If I am one one side and the group I am firing at is on the other side, the shards will not all go in a direct line where I am pointing. Instead they will divide at different angles in an arc. One shard at the guy on the left side of the group, then one shard aimed at the center of the group, then maybe one shard aimed at the side.
I don’t care where they go after they ricochet. But sometimes when a really powerful enemy is advancing directly on me, I want every single shard to initially hit him. That I cannot do.
Is that what the skill is supposed to do?
Are u using the ice shard enchant? This sends out shards automatically to frozen enemies.
Ice Shards burst five at a time, and they go only where you aim (where the mouse pointer is in relation to your body). Unless you’ve disabled mouse-aim (a checkbox in options): then no clue where they go. The main stream while spamming shards is usually bright and obvious compared to ricochets and enhancement procs. A definite straight line.
Also, as noted above the shard enchantment will fire shards at any frozen mob – you don’t have to be doing anything for that to proc. A frost nova to freeze the room, and everything gets shards.
One issue I have noticed is the hit box can be very small for some mobs that get close. Shards shoot right past them not doing any damage: so teleport/evade away and re-aim. And I’ve even had issues hitting world bosses for the same small hit box reason.
But - rereading, sounds like you might not have the piercing aspect. So all you see are shards hitting the first target and then ricochets.
I have figured out what is happening
I do have the Aspect of Piercing cold on my necklace so it’s not a case of me not having that. But my staff is Vax Omnium which has a special ability I’ve not really paid attention to. it reads like this
“Casting a core skill additionally fires 2 instances of Fire Bolt, Frost Bolt or Spark, matching the elements of your last 2 non-core-skill casts”
And what were my last 2 non core skill casts? Ice Bolt.
So what I am seeing head off in different directions is not the ice shards I’m firing but the additional ice-bolts that staff is firing.
Sorry, they looked kinda the same.
