How do helltide mistery chests work?

My experience is that I farm a bunch of embers, go to the mistery chests (the ones that cost 175 to open)… and they are just not there. Even though I had confirmed one being there 5mins earlier. I am also using the online maps to tell me where they are.

So … Is it only a small specific amount of players that can open it, to then disappear?

Is it a bug?

are the chests timed? (Talking about during the helltide timer still being up with plenty time)

I have had times where even the cheap 75 chests were not showing on the map…

Enough said, my experience with these events is so bad, that I stopped doing them. As I often get stuck with 200-500 embers, not having a place to dump them. What do I not know?

The locations swap at the top of the hour.

Ok, but there were helltides where I scouted every potential spawn for these chests and NON were there. so I got stuck with a LOT of embers.

They are always there, you can check helltides dot com for the exact locations.

Probably opened by another player nearby.

The chest is on a first-come-first-served basis, and may replenish but with a different type.

It doesn’t work like that.

It does.

I saw another player that got to the chest I wanted to open, opens it and I can’t open it.

Wander a bit away to farm for some stuff, went back to the same spot and the chest changed from mystery to jewelry.

You can open them, its in your own game not theirs, but it will dissapear on the hour. I think there’s two every hour, or one depending on zones.

You just needed to wait a few seconds.

That is what I am using. Seems like other ppl also have weird stuff happen with it, probably bugs out sometimes.

no, not always, I found a chest which needed 150. I stayed around the spot, farmed the required embers, went back, chest was gone.

I use the diablo4.life event tracker. It shows good imput regarding helltide (including a timer when chests reset) and world boss possible spawn times with previous spawn history to view.

Thank you for the info.

But need to use an external site for this is sht design.

You don’t need to use it, we didn’t have any tracking the first few days outside of discord communities we ran around until we found them. It just makes life easier that’s all. It’s not tracked in game for that very reason, it’s a “mystery” chest. You can see the others.

best way for me is to use helltide dot com maybe it helps

actually when you are super fast, you can get 4 chests in 1 event helltide

There’s usually (always?) 2 Mystery Chests.

They change location at the hour change, so depending when the Helltide starts and how quickly you get Cinders, you have the potential to open 4 Mystery Chests.

Other players opening them shouldn’t affect you. I opened one last night and my friend was able to open it five minutes later.

You can check a live interactive map (thanks blizz) for the chest locations, farm embers while you run to it.

If you find a location put a pin NEXT to it and not on it, cause for whatever reason it disappears if you move to far away. Now farm your embers. The trick now is to NOT change your map, that is not move to another location. If you move to another shard of another location your chest moves to one of the other locations.

I have been farming helltides ever since reaching WT4 as it seems to be the best exp (outside boring af NM dungeons) and source of amazing elixirs.

I did my first helltide last night. I was surprised to see how much better the mystery chests are than the non. I got 3 legos and several rares from it.

I could not find another mystery chest before the time ran low, so I spent my cinders on other chests. What garbage. Not even a single rare from any of the non-mystery ones.

thats not how it works. The chest is there for however many open it, been at a chest with upwards of 10 players, and it always opened.

helltides is a good resource, just remember, at the top of the hour, they will swap places. as you becomes more familiar with their locations, you won’t need the resource to see or track where they are, you will remember where in each zone.

to give advice, when you are first starting out, teleport to the city closest to the one you want, then look at the map on helltides, then place your marker in the general area of where the chest is on your map, then go start killing things for embers on your way, if you get close enough the chest will appear on your minimap. if not, clear the area of mobs, tab out real quick to see where the other location is, place marker, and then go kill for embers on your way to that location.
