After bricking a 3 GA and 2 2 GA pieces today while trying to build my gear, it occurs to me how stupid your tempering system is. You make everything else rerollable however many times, even if cost increases… but the tempers you NEED to make your end game build work just destroys gear. EVERY time for a skill my build doesn’t use. WHO could have thought that was a good idea? How did it go down? I know a way to REALLY piss off our player base! Let’s give him twisting blades bonuses 5 times in a row, even though he doesn’t use that skill. Hell yeah! Let’s do that. Whoever thought of the idea of limiting tempering like that is a fool. Whoever approved that decision… is a bigger fool.
Edit. Just bricked another bow without ever getting the temper I needed a single time. 4 pieces of gear ruined, completely unusable by me without a SINGLE instance of the temper I need.

Before you just got it as trash loot right from the drop with the bad RNG already on it. I dont get how people dont hink having a chance with tempering isnt better.

Blizzard: We want you to feel excited when amazing pieces of gear drop.
Also Blizzard: Lets give them this sh1tty tempering, that won’t give them the roll they want even after bricking several items in a row so they no longer get excited by any items dropping because there is a greater chance of bricking than actually getting what you want…

Blizzard: “Let’s make a system that inconvenience the player. Then we can sell an item for plat to get rid of the problem.”

Nice try defending a broken system. They effectively removed an entire affix to introduce “chances on tempering.”
Just because they gave us “more” options, doesn’t mean its a better system. its not a good system right now.

The system feels bad, I agree. They have to put gear hunt somewhere in game and that’s where they put it. If you could just choose what you want then you’d have everything in a day. Then what?
I dont get the restriction either. Personally I think they should fix the rng to make rerolling the same thing impossible, but if they insist on this slot machine approach then let us reroll however many times we want. Blizzard is so hard headed when it comes to restrictions and it takes forever for them to figure out that it isnt fun for the player and does nothing but cause fustration.

Did you pre-purchase the xpac?

Its a matter of opinion. I like it better than before. “Nice try” making this some kind of partisan argument.
I dont think it perfect but it beats 10x the loot thats all garbage. You used to finish gearing by level 75 bruh

I concur. The old system was way worse. Not because the affixes were bad but because the RNG on getting particular combination of affixes was impossible.

Pro tip, get four or five potential upgrades for your slot. Brick the first few single GAs and then temper your 2 or 3 GA.
NEVER start off tempering your 2-3GAs.

Even when I get what I want on the first roll, first Temper, and it’s a decent roll, I feel bad since the next the next Temper will probably brick the item. The whole system is a complete downer. Every time.

I don’t see the problem with Tempering as a stand-alone mechanic
The issue is they never envisioned people tempering 3GA weapons and trying to get a single skill out of 5 offered
The solution would probably (if not obviously) be to divide the weapon tempers into 2 parts (one containing 2 generic upgrades and 2 skills, and another containing 3 skills and 1 generic upgrade), or even move the 5th skill (i.e. the ult) into a separate Temper with 3 generics as well
EDIT: also just checked like all the possible tempering manuals, can say about 3-4 of them feel/expect-to-be bad
Shocking Finesse, Cold Finesse, Shapeshifting finesse, Warbreaker finesse (or whatever the name was - the one that contained all the buffs for Kick, Upheaval, HotA, EQ) [yet another proof of us Sorcs having the hardest time of getting an exact weapon upgrade lol]
However what seems (kinda obvious) is that OP damage, Crit damage, Vuln damage & similar seem to be locked behind a certain class, and they should probably be more generally accessible in some way

No, I didn’t pre-order the expansion. I also found out today that the person I run with isn’t getting it. Long story short, Blizzard is looking less likely to get more of my money every day. As soon as my frustration with this crap overruns the enjoyment I get running with friends, I’m on to someone else’s game.

Well, Tempering isn’t the only source of frustration tbh, there are other things as well

Because we didn’t have to dance around Greater Affixes that can’t be changed at the occultist.
Because the hunt for a 2GA or 3GA piece is just as bad as the previous loot hunt, except now you get a good chance at ruining the piece.
Simple solution, set a pricey reset fee. Make it 25 million. I’ve had multiple really good pieces trashed from tempering. It’s not a fun system.

The annoying part is that this exact feedback was given in the PTR and it was ignored. All tempering does is force the player to grind more helltides. It’s boring and uninspiring.

The system is broken. Players dont like the brick system. ITs a huge downer overall. Much more support to change than to keep it.
You know it.
I know it.
Blizzard knows it.
WE all know it.
But its going to take some time for a fix.
Maybe by S5.

I had about 9 or 10 bows saved up, all near perfect rolls (Not GA I don’t even see that stuff drop).
I then attempted roll ONE of them with heart seeker projectile chance. I bricked every single one. Ever. Single. One.
My luck is trash, it’s always been trash. It will always be trash. Blizzard, the Dev’s, the design team. My fellow community members. None of them give two Sh*ts. It is, what it is.
