How can respecing survive multiple patchs and balances?

Welcome to ARPGs.

Coming from D2, where there originally no respec at all, and we were had to deal with decisions we made while leveling, having any respecs at all feels like takes a lot of the RP out of the RPG. I felt that way in D2R, as well. This is more like playing dress-up, where decisions have little consequence.

In the beta, I rolled two sorcs, because the first sorc was one thing, and I wanted to go on a different kind of adventure with my other one.

There’s nothing else to spend gold on, and if you just vendor your loot instead of salvaging it you’ll have more gold than you know what to do with

I actually like the respec system in D2R. It’s steep enough that every point you spend feels semi permanent and there’s some weight attached to those choices but if you ultimately messed up or decided to play a new build to mix things up you could eventually get the respec

Respecs should be inexpensive and easily accessible to encourage experimentation and playing your own theorycrafted builds.

Expensive and inexpensive are relative terms. What’s expensive at level 10 isn’t expensive at level 100.

Anyway, there’s a fine line between ā€œencouraging experimentationā€ and ā€œtrivializing decisionsā€

They have already said the respecs costs will scale with character level. The cost for a level 10 character will be much, much less than a level 50. The question is how is the scaling relative to available gold.

As long as the cost scales properly, it can be. And definitely should be.

buffing unused talents and nerfing OP talents wont make your hero suddenly worthless.
I really doubt you will feel the difference.

Well… like in real life, you save up a rainy-day-fund and when unexpected life events happen you’re ready for it! Stop crying! Improvise, adapt and overcome.

thats… not… the… point.

people really, i mean REALLY make monumental effort to miss the point.

the point is ā€œI MIGHT NOT WANT TO PLAY THAT BUILD ANYMORE REGARDLESS ITS VIABLE OR NOT… PERSONAL CHOICE.ā€ Blizzard wants to change something whenever they want? So do i. Whenever i like.

 what?

Like, ā€œI MIGHT NOT WANT TO PLAY THAT BUILD ANYMOREā€ because its damage went down 2-3%?

Yes, they will change whatever they want, however they want and whenever they want.
You will need to either farm gold if you do it too often, or just don’t do it too often.

Or hey, you can refund!
Because you know, blizzard might change something whenever they want and then ā€œYOU MIGHT NOT WANT TO PLAY THAT BUILD ANYMORE REGARDLESS ITS VIABLE OR NOT… PERSONAL CHOICEā€.

Youre obviously trolling.

Let me highlight what you said:

 but I’m the troll here. LOL

Even with a bad gear AND random point distritubtion, I think a player can still clear a dungeon with enough time. One dungeon clear seems to give us enough gold for three full respec. I’m not sure where this fear of ā€œsoft lockā€ build is coming from. Must be a POE thing. Or is it diablo immortal with it’s cast shop?

Respecs should always be free and infinite.

Otherwise there’s absolutely no reason to experiment with skill combinations for yourself to figure things out; much better to just wait for someone who plays 23 hours a day to figure out the meta and copy his build. Experimenting for yourself is a waste of time if it will ruin your character.

Yes, because you want dictate the reasons for me wanting tor espec or not, be it for nerfs ā€œ3%ā€ or not… thats not relevant. The fact is that at some point of the game i’ll want. And i dont want that denied to me due to ever escalating prices… then i decide to a QUESTION to the community (my mistake, should know ppl like you is lurking around) in the post, ASKING if this situation will be forever viable in the lifespan of the game so i dont have to create multiple characters. Honest concern from someone who doesnet now how it works.

Wich you chose to came here and be a d*** about it and miss the whole point, beign passive-agressive just because you dont care about the result of this issue.

Yes dude, you are just trolling and being toxic for no reason.

Having that said, i guess the question was already answered and i will not adress this topic anymore. =]

Have a nice day.

I fully respec’d multiple times during Server Slam. It was not remotely meaningful in terms of cash. If it is relatively more expensive at level 100, well you will have mostly completed your skill selection some 40 levels previously.

 ah the sweet sweet hypocrysi

Old news, that has been both:
a) corrected that their statement that it would be ā€˜painful’ was inaccurate, and
b) changed to be less annoying, as now you can change one skill/paragon point at a time (when their first statement was made you couldn’t, it was full respec or nothing)

Patches: Unless it’s literally fixing a game-breaking bug, won’t happen outside of season reset day
Seasons: You have to start over anyway so needing to respec is a non-issue

Yep, because respecs only get more expensive when you level. At level 100 the cost is fixed, forever. As you play you’ll get more gold, and if you’re hoarding for years on Eternal you’ll have plenty

Do what the last 500 million ARPG players have done and make a new character

Blizzard want you to make a new character in this situation. They’ve been pretty upfront about that design choice. I’m sorry that you hate it

Yeah you will. Even going from the KFC/Open Betas to the Server Slam, a LOT of builds felt COMPLETELY different in Server Slam than they did in the KFC/Open Beta. Blizzard doesn’t do ā€˜minor’ nerfs or buffs. When they nerf something, they make it useless. And when they buff something, they make it OP.
