I only played sorc in eternal and got bored and took a break until season 1 and I’ve been playing D2R as bone spear necro so I’m feeling inclined to play as a necro season 1 but I’m curious how it feels leveling one with all the changes in recent patch.
Leveling necro is probably the easiest experience. Until about 55-60 >.> The WT3 to WT4 jump is rather harsh. Even switching from pet build (ez leveling) to FotM Bone spear I had a rough time passing the capstone.
It’s fun and easy using pet build and whatever flavor of damage you like with whatever gear you randomly find while rushing the campaign in wt2 and wt3, but you need to focus on good rolled aspects and decent gear and tight skill choices to keep pets viable from 60 onwards and moving into wt4, which is where pet damage and survivability take a nosedive and is usually where most people choose to move to a sacrifice build
I am having very fun in tier 2, it is as easy as when the game launched, But now we have a gem that auto summons pets, auto uses tendrils and explosions.
I love it.
Get the heart that casts corpse tendrils, corpse explosion, and summons your minions and you turn the class into a walking simulator.

Just don’t use the heart that fears on lucky hit as it fears you instead of enemies.

Pretty much yeah and the reason why is because people find new pieces of gear and they put it on with no regard to what’s on it. Reason why my character seems overpowered no matter if it’s WT2,3 or 4 is because my standard for replacing gear is ultra high. Like, I’m not putting on a glove unless it has at minimum Lucky Hit Chance, Critical Strike Chance and Attack Speed (lol). Then it HAS to have the same aspect that the previous piece had on it.
Necro leveling is ok. It’s slow but Bone Spear is quit strong a skill, minions aren’t that useless in low level except completely wiped on most bosses and elites.
But it’s really really slow. You come from the fastest class to the slowest class. But if you don’t like Sorc’s speed, maybe you will like it slow.
Corpses popcorn and persistent cursing aura (just make sure pick heart with 3 enemy and 14+ second duration) definitely change necro quality of life. “Subjectively” leveling in season somewhat faster - at least auto summon skell made me notice that I forgot to complete golem quest only at 35 …
It’s ok its slower then every other class though except maybe barb

With the automatic corpse skills vicious heart, necro is IMO the fastest at low level clearing now. Even chain lighting+teleporting sorc isnt as fast now because at low levels you dont have infinite mana. Necro doesn’t even have to cast beyond throwing out one attack to kill a weak trash mob, because that causes tendrils to pull everything to it, and CE clears all non-elites instantly. You just focus any elites that are left and move on.
Really enjoying the new patch, have one of every class at least at level 15.
I am just at 46 on my Necromancer, and running a blight, frost mage/blizzard double curse variant with no basic attack, it is a blast.
Using the corpse MH, Decrepify aura, and fear/chill to combo with the blizzard mages.
I will use this until I get Lidless wall, then spec out of the ice minion stuff and add back bonestorm.
Then swap out the fear/chill MH for the DoT boost.
