Horse control on PC need a fix

Horses… Can we fix their controls on PC? I cannot count how many times I have run into invisible objects and been stopped dead, wasting the sprint boost and getting attacked because even several feet away from an object I still get stuck on it. I know I am not the only one with this issue, there is even an article about the terrible controls on PC

(had link here, but Blizzard said NO!)

Speaking of spring boost, why are charges even a thing? Why limit it? Just make it unlimited. I do not understand or see any point to limit the horse’s speed to three charges.

The horse only exists because they wanted another cosmetic slot to sell skins for. With all the waypoints in this game, we really do not even need a horse.

It’s a shame that they couldn’t even get it to function correctly after forcing it into the game. Priorities.

Waypoints aren’t gonna get you between packs in a helltide, or get you to the world event at the last second, or move you between quest objectives any faster. Waypoints are great but I am exceedingly glad they gave us a mount, even if it is busted to all hell and back right now. Even at its slowest the mount would probably save you an hour or more if you went around and collected every altar in one go.

Of course its another cosmetic slot, I’m surprised they don’t have portal effects, pets, skill effects, banners, hairstyles, eye colors, name changes, hell the list of possible cosmetic slots of damn near infinite. They could sell different colored skill icons and people would buy em, that’s not the issue.

The controls were designed to be comfortable on a controller and then made to work with a mouse. The speed of the horse is dependent on the distance of the mouse from the mount, which is exactly fine on a controller but awful feeling for PC peripherals.

Asides from that issue, the cooldowns are absurd, the collision box is abysmal, the absence of aggro is awkward, and the dash needs a lot of work. It feels like you’ve been CC’d when the dash wears off, you can accidently fire off all 3 charges basically in the same button press which is easy to do because half the time the thing sprints in place because your cursor is too close. It fails 90% of the time at jumps, and with its 10 second cooldown for disengaging makes ducking or climbing a chore.

When I get on the horse it rockets me half a screen in the direction I’m facing, but when I get off the horse it’s a nice slow climb down to the ground then I adjust my shirt and check my hair in the horse mirror before engaging in combat.

The whole thing is a mess, but I’m glad we have it.

It is janky for sure. I have even more trouble with the horse being slow when it doesnt seem like it should be like walk slow and doesn’t respond to sprint like its stuck in the mud. Then suddenly it will speed up. Also, and not complaining right now about it, but you do not draw normal aggro from horseback. Often I can stop in a mob and they wont even react to me.

The distance your mouse is from your horse determines the speed it will run. It’s uncomfortable. Honestly, if they changed the cursor icon to a picture of a carrot when you’re mounted, it would almost be a tutorial.

Is that true?? I gotta test that.

I normally just walk/run whatever, running into walls with other players around me, I feel like an idiot, like it’s my 1st time using it.

Horse is whack in it’s current form.

Looks good though, but I play WoW so I know it doesn’t need to be like this.

Devs: Why are all this peasants keeps on complaining about the horse being janky in PC. It works perfectly fine in console!

until you realise by playing with a PC player on a shared world that your horse is stuck at 70% speed…

100%. Real quick and easy confirm as soon as the servers come back up in Season 2.

Lol. Thanks for your optimism.

I maintain that the ones in charge of horses in this game, are the same devs that gave us the Dragonflight Asthmatic dragons. And you have to look at it from the horses point of view…I’m sure even they stub their hooves lol.

As evident of the crap fixed camera distance, this was a freakin console port…

Yeah, that is another mildly frustrating aspect of horses. I play with an ultra wide monitor so running north or south gets pretty frustrating. The mouse cursor distance is not the most practical either.

Makes me curious if I can get the thing to go faster by having the cursor not restricted to my center monitor.

alright guys. diablo is an advanced game. although it is just movement controls, it should be very manual to suit veteren diablo players. it is the way meant to be played.

This is a PC port of a console game.

Movement on the horse and the character themselves is very uncomfortable and feels last-minute on PC with mouse and keyboard.

Wonder why sometimes your horse is fast, and sometimes your horse is slow? Console. It’s designed to be controlled with a controller, the further you press the joystick, the faster it runs. Intuitive, easy. With a mouse however, this translates into “the further away your cursor is from the mount on the screen, the faster you go” and it’s horribly awkward.

Same goes for trying to control your character with LMB while using a skill on LMB as well. 50% of the time you click to move, it chooses to click a monster and attempt to cast that skill instead. Not uncommon in ARPGs, but most have something in place to make this comfortable and intuitive. Blizzard omitted this heavily precedented QoL in their port to PC.

Curious why there’s no global chat? Console. No keyboard on the original platform for typing. Can’t have the console crossplayers seeing all that drivel, unable to respond.

Why is the zoom so close? Console. While some settings for PC are totally available and customizable per your particular machine, other things like max zoom are locked to provide a very console scalable experience, except for pre-determined areas that are designed to support a wider FOV.

Poor PC peasants.

Pretty sure this is a setting.

Agree with the rest of it though, although I’d say the biggest console carryover is the complete lack of any filtering on stash/inventory.

Sort of? You can bind LMB to “Force Move” and set a different button for that skill. Not exactly what I’d call quality of life or intuitive, but it does exist.

Can’t be fixed unless the horse is tied to an exploit, then it would be fixed 4 weeks ago.
