First of all, I’d like to say I played D1, D2 and D3! I love Diablo games, except that one we shall not name. ARPGS are one of my favorite genres.
So far, the stoy is way better told than D3, the atmosphere is not as good as D2. Still, it is a plus, compraed to D3, where the Azmodan kept calling you using his hellish holograms to tell why it did not matter that you ruined his plans (it was very childish). The gameplay feels nice for the most part, but not without some issues:
-Skill feel nice, yet combat feels slow. People are saying that it is because we don’t have enough skill points yet. But at level 25 in D3, combat was WAY more fluid and fast paced. Sugegstion: increase moviment speed overall, a bit more attack speed overall, lower cooldowns and resouce generation overall (or reduce resource cost). You can improve monsters to balance. It’s about feeling the character and combat more fluid, not necessarily killing the monsters faster.
-There are several monster combat mechanics that “punishes” you for being a melee character (like teleporting when you get close to them, or doing area damage just around them and not anywhere else, being invencible while their fair away summons are alive - then you kill them without having time to get close to the now vunerable monster before he summons new allies).
Same suggestions as above, having ways to getting to them faster, would solve some of this problems. Having a received damage reduction to melee characters as in D3 also would help.
-Dungeons are all “the same”, you clear two rooms with " door key" or elite monsters and unlock the final generic room. Feels kinda cheap.
Suggestion: Have more varied style of dungeons.
-Monster scaling feels kinda off. Unlessyou get better items as you level, it feels like you are acctually getting weaker as you level up. Maybe it is solved at lv 50, since you are capped but continue to get power because of better items and the paragon system…
Overall I enjoyed playing, but you can’t compare the combat to other ARPGS, Lost Ark for exemple have a way more fluid combat. Would be very nice to see D4 evolve that way. I don’t think they will change that much in this stage of development, but still hope they will.
PS: will play either way. Liked the game.
