High Resolution Pack?

Hello everyone. After a long break from diablo 4 (Skipped entire first expansion), I am planning to return for this expansion. I do not remember if I installed the high resolution pack before but wondering if it is worth it? I am only playing on 24 inch monitor 144hz @ 1080p. And my GPU is only mid tier rtx 3060ti 8gb. Thanks for any advice fellow nephalems.

id say you should make the decision based on how much space you got on your ssd.

I personally never install it, and i just dont want to spare all that ssd size ^^

I have lots of SSD space. My worry is that at 1080p and 24 inch monitor that it will not really give any noticeable difference while straining my GPU more and give stutters and crashes. I saw some very old posts back in 2023 that it causes crash unless having a high end pc setup.

hm, sine you probably cant play on the best graphical settings id say stick with the regular texture pack. ^^

I play 1080/240 and I use the high res pack. I haven’t tested with/without but I do run all high settings and use dlss, so I imagine especially with dlss on it would make a difference. This is with a 4070 though.

ok thanks. Yea maybe ill just start off with no high res pack.

Yep. My worry is only having a 3060ti 8gb would not be enough.

I have nearly the same setup like you. rtx3060 without ti but 12GB Graphics memory, 144, FHD.

And yes i have it installed. Since 2023 when it came out. Last time i had deinstalled it to test it whats the graphics difference.

  1. just to say the game runs without it, very very bad, why? i dont know why? Wrong programming by blizzard, my be it works better with high graphics and nvidia drivers, i dont know. So i reinstalled it, and the performance was like that before deinstalling.
  2. It looks really better for me.
  3. You should know that the game at the moment runs not optimised by blizzard. Many people said that they have rubberbanding, framedrops, me too. Its not a problem with that high graphics, its a problem with the last 2 -3 patches by Blizz. Before iit all runs at 144Hz very well. And at the moment they sleep very well since 4 - 5 weeks. and the dont answer at any bugreports.
  4. you have only 8GB graphics mem. I run with all settings at ultra or max. But i have 12 GB Graphics mem. You should set the textures only to middle, because it would overload your video memory. You see a memerory display at the right corner in your video options, how much it will use.
  5. I hope you understand all. Im not a english man.
  6. and it needs 140 instead 70 GB SSD

DLSS on middle of performance and quality. Raytracing has no effect. All off!!!

Yea I never use F-gen and raytracing in any of my games. I just do not believe in those features at the moment.

You do not get more stutters and crashes or GPU overheating with high res pack?

Msi rtx 3060 12GB constantly 60 Grad celsius (dont know the word in english)

there is rubberbanding, but this is at the moment not a graphics problem. There are latency problems, they go up and down from 30 to 400.

Install it, load gpu-z portable, or an other tool for graphics control to see your temperatures.

If it is once installed and it runs not you can quickly deinstall it. It changes nothing else at the installation only removes that high graphics.

ok thanks. I will mostly probably try it but I think like Nyurei said maybe the best for me is not installing it since you also recommend only medium texture setting with my GPU. For medium setting we do not need high res pack.

When i played The Witcher 3 i stopped every few minutes at the beginning to watch the stunning landscapes.

But DIV? nonononono :see_no_evil_monkey:

Im pretty sure you wont miss anything w/o the h-res pack.

basically you can skip it. you won’t notice the difference for its fast paced play style, and you won’t zoom in to check Kyovashad floor tile crevasses for details. :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

the standard pack is sufficient and detailed enough for my 32/4k.

When playing at 1080p the high resolution pack is really only good for one scenario: when using DSR (dynamic super resolution), as the textures can be utilized in that mode since the GPU internally renders at the higher resolution and downscales to your current resolution fir a crisper looking image. A 12 GB or larger VRAM pool is recommended for this mode.

You want to do this in hi resolution have you read the comments it’s always this doesn’t work or that doesn’t the nerfing and everything else, at least it will look good while you screaming at the game.

8GB Vram is probably enough, and it’s there to be used so don’t worry if it uses almost all of it. Vram being in use isn’t like having your CPU constantly running near or at 100% usage. Remember, your system will use Pagefile as well. If there are Vram/Ram usage issues you’ll know it within a few hours and can just uninstall the texture pack or lower your settings.

Thanks yea. I decided to install the high res pack in the end. Since I do want to put some of the setting on high. Some like shadows etc. I will probably put at lower settings like i usually do since I never notice shadows in most games anyway haha.

Well the textures pack is only going to be relevant to the textures setting anyway.

it does affect certain cosmetics too, for example this seasons battle pass cosmetic is a little pixelated, but yea, then again, you dont really zoom in on your character

Yea. So far the game is running smoothly with mostly high settings. Ultra is still locked out for me since it requires 12gb VRAM GPUs which is fine since I do not plan to play on ultra even if it is available.

offtopic. Do you know if there is a chance that the lich king cosmetic will come back? I saw it before but was not able to get it since I was not playing d4 at that time.
