I understand that 70% is the max, and it can go to 85%, but my resistance is around 166% from bonuses, but then it says -50% from penalties, -46.7% away from maximum lightning resistance. I do not understand what my resistance is at all lol. What does this mean? What is my resistance exactly? Any help?
the final calculated value is displayed on the stat panel, isn’t it?
T3 and T4 give resistance penalties you have to overcome. A flat 70 isn’t enough, you need 70 + whatever the tier penalty is and I can’t believe I don’t know it off the top of my head.
You want your resistances to be an all green %, which means you are capped. The number will be between 70-85% depending on gear.
Edit removing lightning bit, forgot negative number means you’re over.
Ok, it is green and at 70%, but it was the the 166% that was confusing me when you hover over the element.
So if it’s only 70%, and I need it to be at 85% to max, then what is the 166% bonus all about? Will it say 85% in green?
I have 42% resist all from my necro sacrifices, and it’s all green 70%, when I remove that, it drops to 50-60%. So by that math, I should be way above 70% right?
You are probably overcapped with the sacrifice. It also may be a weird calculation, it’s been awhile since I played a sac necro.
85% is only obtainable with gear that gives increased max resist (Tassets of dawning sky, melted heart of selig, Tyrael’s Might) or by taking a consumable. The default is 70.
Basically though-Green is what you are after, it means you are capped. If you have no gear that increases your max resist that number is 70. If when you hover over it says “+166%”(and the math is now confusing me too), but I would assume you could drop that much resist from paragon/gear/gems and still be capped.
That’s what I am trying to figure out, if I am way over cap, then I can respec and add paragon points to other nodes, skull gems instead of diamonds for more armor etc.
I’m pretty sure the sac is a % calculation. So if you have 100% of one on your gear and 10% of another (pretending that you have no all resist at all), the latter is going to be less and possibly undercapped.
Like in your case maybe you have 150% or something fire resist and only 10% lightning resist on gear/gems which is causing the variance.
Also if it helps, lightning is probably the most forgiving element early on to not be capped on in T4.
If you are living in WT4 you should hit the resistance cap by having 120% total resistances. 120 - 50 (WT4 penalty) will result in 70% cap resistance.
Ok, that helps. I have all of my resistance with the sacrifice at 166+%, so I am overcapped and can dial it back a bit. Thanks for the help.
One question, does it ever show 85% in green? Or just 70% in green?
Above 70% if you have special affixes that can boost the resistance. Like Tassests of the Dawning Sky. Or Tyriel’s Might.
Ah ok. So diamonds in jewelry, percentage from sacrifice and Paragon nodes don’t actually push it above 70%? I have to get that gear?
Yes and no. Wait till you are at the last World Tier or Torment level in the future (Basically final penalty) to consider dialing anything back as it really won’t matter much until then. This goes for armor also.
But yes you can essentially gain spots to put other affixes on if you tweak this properly.
Also keep in mind MW adds to these values when they are affixes on your gear. To be optimal without going over by too much.
I’m in world tier 4 torment. I get it now. I’m capped at green 70 with the -50 penalty. I guess now I need to figure out how to be at 85. Seems jewelry, gem, sacrifice and Paragon nodes don’t push it above 70. I didn’t know that. I thought me being at 166% meant I was above 85 and at the highest.
Yeah you need something to raise the Max Resistance or else it is 70%, it is not like Last Epoch where you can just stack it higher.
Ok thanks. This helps, because I can remove the diamonds and go skull gems for armor, as I’ll still be at 70, or mess around with my Paragon. Or switch the resist sacrifice for crit chance. Thank you so much!
Yes you can, Also keep in mind, if you are over the resist cap, you can swap paragon nodes also…if say you needed one or two nodes to reach something else. Just basic flexibility as long as you meet the minimums.
Armor also has a cap at 9230, and 1000 in s6/PTR. But from the PTR it is not as easy to hit the armor cap as it is now. (or maybe I was just being too stingy with my affix spots from the get go.)
Armor cap was definitely harder to hit for T4 on the PTR. Would’ve had to have use juggernaut myself and I’m not sure that would’ve even capped me to be honest.
I use juggernaut as well. My armor is at 10k+ (I believe, I’m away from my PC). So it has a cap as well? Geez lol well is there a point to get it higher? If that’s the case then I’ll stop the armor there and push Max life. Or is that capped as well?
Nope once you hit the armor cap (9230 on live) anything over is wasted. This gives you 85% physical damage resistance.
That actually helps because I don’t have to worry about it. So I’m guessing damage and health is uncapped?
