As per the title.
Had two chests open and ~800 cinders before the reset, figured I might as well use them on another character and try to get 6 chests.
Logged in to find 0 cinders on the alt, and going back to the main I had zero as well.
How basic stuff like this keeps breaking is beyond me.

Everything you’d get from a chest is Account Bound so can be shared with your alt. No reason to change characters. Cinders are linked to the character you pick them up with. If you log out on that character and log it back in, you still have the cinders. This might be a convenience to protect from disconnecting. Changing to another character probably wipes it though.

I have been able to use cinders on another character consistently.
The reason to switch is to get more than 4 “living steel” chests in a single helltide.

I found a way to make this work
You go with your alt character when the helltide starts and you tp to the helltide zone. You log out. You go with you main character and farm your cinders.
When you go back to your alt, the cinders you farmed will still be there
I’ve been trying to find a way to make this work again and this is the solution I’ve found

I had this (almost) exact same thing happen yesterday to me.
I had farmed 600 extra cinders for my second character. I log into second char and had zero, I then farmed a little (like 30 cinders or so). I log back into first character and she had 30, not 600…
So between the first relog, cinders were wiped account-wide. Between the second relog, cinders were preserved.
The behavior needs to be consistent!
Same thing happened just now. I had 1300 cinders, opened a Living Steel chest, then when I selected another (alt) character, cinders where 0. But when I got about 5 cinders from that alt character, then selected back to the main one, 5 cinders were there.
Hi. The exact same thing happened to me as well and Blizzard will not let me post anything on the korean forum nor file any inquiries either. This is absurd and frustrating. Pls fix this and reimburse those who have suffered losses.
Same here. It has only happened to me once but it feels awful when it does. I’ve had this happen when going in and out of the training room in Kyovashad too. It is not consistent but just the fact that it can happen is a lousy feeling.
Happend multiple times!
Char A (not in zone) = 0 cinders
Char B farming 1000 cinders
Logging out Char B and log into Char A
Go to HT zone with Char A = 0 Cinders
Relog to Char B = 0 Cinders
Farming 1 Cinder with Char B
Relog to Char A = 1 Cinder
Dear Blizzard. I’ve lost another 900 cinders worth which is approximately 35 minutes of tedious grinding which no one can ever call entertaining. At least you can let us know when chests will reset to a different location so that users don’t have to switch to different characters or simply fix this bug. I would really like to have that 900 cinders worth of Living metal reimbursed. Thank you
Before i farmed cinders on one char , get 2 chests and move to another to get other chests until reset. Was working , but today i farmed 600 more and when i log in to alt , i found 0 cinders , farmed 90 , then i decide i go on main , my cinders gone , instead i foudn 90 cinders i farm . So there is a bug in the game
I just had the same issue, i had just over 600 cinders after looting the first 2 chests. I swap to my Druid, build up enough to loot 2 chests. I get back on my sorcerer and i have 22 cinders when i leave town.
Cinders were never intended to be used up by an alt to prevent exploting the chest limit.
This was even mentioned in a patch note a while back…
Glad you found another exploit though. Congrats!
Same VERY FRUSTRATING thing happened to me now. Opened 3 chests, but I built 600 cinders on top of that, then I moved on to fight World Boss, teleported back to town and decided to switch characters. I realized that my cinders did not carry over only when I tried to open some chest - found I got only 29 cinders I farmed on my way to the chest! What’s worse, when I switched back to my original character, one that farmed those 600+, it had 29 cinders! So IT IS SHARED, but what is the reason original 600 disappeared???
