can we have back the devs from Diablo 2 LOD? at least they knew how to balance every build so people could choose what they wanted to play each season with out constant NERFS or only having 2 META BUILDS per season. some people prefer a barb build, some people prefer a sorc build, some people prefer a ranged build, you know the whole reason to have multiple characters/builds in the game? hell i cant even make a proper lightning sorc the way i want because its to dam nerfed unless you run hydra on it, why in the hell would i want fire damage mixed with lightning, makes zero sense.
What’s wrong, you don’t like having only two meta builds per season? Personally, I very much like only having two meta builds. On top of this, I prefer my meta builds to deal around 100x more damage than non meta builds. This is ultimately super healthy for the game for a variety of reasons that I can’t go into.

Asking Blizzard to balance the game is like a mom asking a kid to clean his room or do his homework.

Expecting a game like this to be balanced is just silly. No arpg game is ever balanced yet for some reason there are people that will never understand that.

It doesn’t need to be perfectly balanced. But they make changes and things are still 1000x or whatever stronger than other things. That is not putting in effort. At all.
Zero effort would be never making changes. Unfortunately, reality doesnt agree with you. Now you could say they dont do it well, which would be accurate, but they clearly put in effort.
Diablo 2 LOD is balanced you can put together any class with the right items and it will work, doesnt mean they need to cater to the 1% of the population and strip every build and leave 2 per season, there needs to be more options for builds makes the game alot more fun. also having 2 meta builds per season is boring with zero options until another new season starts in hopes they finally decide to bring a build back for a season just to find out there not. lack of effort or lack of caring maybe both.
I don’t think any game can be objectively “balanced” since this isn’t an objective term, so putting game balance into black and white categories doesn’t work.
I think what we can all agree on though, is that on the balance spectrum D4 is particularly bad. In most other ARPGs where one build deals 100x more damage than another build, it’s usually because that builds gear is extremely rare or expensive, i.e. the player has to work for it.
In this game you auto win by picking the right class / build since all gear is obtained at the same rate between classes. There’s no specialized farming builds (boss killers vs AoE) no extremely rare or difficult to obtain items, etc. In my definition of balance, that is poor balance.
Yep. When something does 10,000%+ more damage then the next build its a problem. No one expects perfect balance but people are tired of the D3 flavor of the month approach. Its lazy and unimaginative.
People don’t seem to like PoE on this forum, and I get that because it’s D4’s main competitor (if you could even call it a competition), but they do a really good job of balancing meta builds.
Meta builds being popular means their gear is very expensive. The gear to enable meta builds is also crafted or exceedingly rare. Therefore to play a meta build that deals 10,000% more damage, you either need to be good at crafting and get really lucky, or grind a ton of currency to buy the gear.
That way no one can play a meta build without putting considerable effort into even getting to that level of damage. On D4 I just start up a character, get to 60, and start running NMDs, Helltides, Lair bosses, etc and I’m OP within a day or two.
Past season I started out as a Shred Druid, took me maybe a week to get to killing T4 Belial (not one shotting, just being able to kill him solo). Then I decided to make an earthquake Barbarian. That only took me a few days before I was able to one shot him. Took less effort, was faster, and was much much stronger.
Feels a bit off.
There’s balance and then there’s the seeking of balance, the latter cannot be achieved the former is courageous in it’s attempt.
It’s more akin to asking your infant to do your taxes. I’m sure they would if they were capable.

A new broken build or two every season is intentional.
Do you think lamer partners could get clicks and promote the game with the same Barb build every season?
Do you think they could sell new SB cosmetics when Hydra sorc is the go to broken build every season?
Without this there would be no marketing hype to bring players back each season. They refuse to add engaging content so they resort to this type of minimal effort garbage.
D2 was not a continuing revenue live service game. That type of product has the gone the way of the dinosaur.
Some of them are working for a company called Moonbeast and making an ARPG. I’ll be interested to see what they create.
Diablo 2 LOD was released June 29, 2000, 25 YEARS LATER Diablo 2 LOD is still alive and theres a reason that master piece was remastered and people still play it maybe not as much as back in the day anymore and they could have made money on D2R hella easy.
As for D4 people who want to buy cosmetics get the cosmetics they want, it does not matter if theres a 2 build limit per season or if theres a 10 limit per season one thing is for sure if people cant play the builds they want there not going to ever want to buy cosmetics anyway because they wont be on the game playing to even look at the shop.
