HDD unexpected usage

I have PC with SSD where D4 is installed and HDD for data.

D4 is often lagging and freezing screen, and when that happens D4 is 100% usage reading from HDD.
I dont know what, its like game is reading 20 MB/s for 10-30 sec, no idea what, and it was always installed on SSD and the PC OS was recently reinstalled.
No other game is doing this, and HDD usage reading is never like this even when used normally.

Do you know if you have Direct Storage enabled or not?

You can review the FenrisDebug file, its usually listed near the beginning.

If its enabled, you can disable it using the command:

-disableds

and put that in the Command line arguments section under the game’s launch settings for Diablo IV in the launcher. (gear cog)

Hi, thx for reply.

FenrisDebug contains line:
[Game] DirectStorage: Enabled

I did Settings > Game Settings > D4 > selected Additional command line arguments and put:

Does not seem to work, D4 is still reading HDD and game is lagging then.

Are you absolutely sure the game is running from the SSD?

Are there any Diablo IV folders on the HDD?

Yes. I can see that in Game Settings.

TBH I have no idea what that would even mean. The game is installed in standard/suggested C:\Program Files (x86).
Are you asking me if I somehow put some game folders on disk D? I dont know how to do that, is it possible to do it by accident?
Also it would have to be like 2GB files or something, given how long game is reading from there.

EDIT: BTW its not that common, not like game is constantly reading HDD. But I fell like the longer I play more likely it is to occur and most commonly it occurs when entering new location, especially in and out of TP. Also actually exiting the game, game can be unresponsive for 1+ min after exit with HDD working 100%.

Any chance Windows’s Swap file is located on D instead of C?

It’s not normal, but…
Windows Swap file normally is located on windows disk…
Normally…

I’m well aware. I’m just trying to find a reason why the system is trying to access a drive that neither the game nor the swap file should be on.

So disk usage proces is D4 and file is D:\pagefile.sys
Is this the Windows Swap you are talking about? So its some RAM saving on HDD, and if I move it to SSD it should resolve the problem? I never heard this before.

Lord yes you need to set it on the fastest drive. Setting a swap on a HDD for modern computers is like slowing the monsters on the map.

Not sure why its on your HDD to begin with. By default they install where the OS is.

Thx for help. Hopefully this is it.
If you are curious how, I can tell you that it started when I upgraded to Win11, thnec bcs of it I reinstalled PC back with Win10 (complete disk format and everything, it was after Win11 trial period), which made things a lot better, but still not resolved the problem.
Thx again for help

EDIT: Thinking about it, when reinstalling OS I only formated disc C, so maybe Win11 moved it to D and it stayed there after reinstall? As I said I never heard about this thing before, just guessing based on order of things.
