Have they changed the way transmogs are acquired yet?

By that, I mean Do you still have to destroy the item in order to receive the transmog? I truly hope they change this if they have not.

I doubt this will change before launch. After launch they might change it depending on feedback. Considering it’s a one time thing though, I don’t think it will be a big deal.

The only issue is the legendary pieces that you want to extract for aspects. We’ll have to see if with the new drop rate if it becomes an issue with item rarity.
I know that I played A LOT of Necromancer during beta with the increased legendary drop rate and only got the Blood Mist/Corpse Explosion legendary to drop two times. Could have just been bad luck. I didn’t really pay attention to other aspects to compare but that one stuck out. So obviously if I wanted to use that aspect and it was rare I wouldn’t be destroying it for the transmog.
On the plus side if I remember correctly several aspects shared the same loot appearance. So that increases your chances of being able to find one you don’t want to use if you want to break it down for the transmog. Again we’ll see just how much the drop rate was decreased.
Honestly if worse comes to worse you can just use the dungeon aspects to create tons of legendaries from rares and destroy those for the transmog. I did that in the last few hours of the beta to try and see as many sets as I could. Expensive but that won’t be an issue in later game when we have more gold. So yeah because you can make legendaries I don’t think this will be too bad an issue.

I agree here.

They should just let you gain the appearance automatically upon looting it.
Making it a player choice whether to destroy/sell or etc etc in order to gain the appearance is so weird.

i think how it works is each zone has loot with their own appearance and like a legendary has the same appearance as a rare or magic not sure how many varients each zone has though. the only ones with unique appearances are uniques i think. which is awesome in my opinion cause if i like furry animal hide cold weather look i can farm my gear in fractured peaks for fun. but with transmogs it wont be necessary.

Nope. Legendary loot has its own looks. I would say they were slightly more impressive for the most part than the rare/magic/common loot (though honestly all the armor and weapons looked amazing IMO). But Legendary were definitely separate from the rest. If you looked at your transmogs in the dressing room thing the first few sets at the top were the legendaries. From the images I have seen armor Uniques are just going to share their appearance with different Legendary sets but it is certainly possible some of the weapons will have their own appearance. Unclear on that for now though. But it makes sense for the Unique armor to just look like Legendary loot because since they are super rare you wouldn’t want a single piece that didn’t match the rest of your gear.

For example the Harlequin Crest helm unique (the one similar to Shako from D2 I guess) the image I saw was the necromancer version which shared the look of the legendary helm which looks like torn off flesh just draped over a skull. This is a full legendary set that is sort of cadaverous looking for the Necro (can’t remember what it looked like for the other classes but I did get the helm during beta).

I was so confused about the mog system. I guess I’m so used to (once you pick the item up or equip it, you get the mog) type of gameplay.

nice find. The only real issue is uniques yep. if we have to destroy them for transmog, would feel kinda strange. They should definately unlock on finding em. Since they are account bound anyway.

Another reason that I believe at least the armor pieces will just be already existing legendary transmogs. So by the time you find uniques you probably will already have its look in your transmog wardrobe. It is possible the weapons will too. Though even if the weapons have unique skins you could just use them without setting a transmog to them.

I think transmog kills some RPG elements in the game so I would rather not have it. It is cool being able to look at a character and identify what they are wearing without having to inspect their gear. This is especially important if you like to PVP. I’m really wondering if Cata Classic comes out for WoW if they are going to make the decision to not include transmog. I imagine that since they didn’t include RDF in WoTLK Reforged that they won’t allow transmog in Cata Classic for the same reason.

Transmog is awesome. I think it is ok to want to look cohesive and cool looking. Particularly in a game like WoW where some of the armor makes you look like a clown.

i hope that is not the case. Uniques should have awesome transmogs and not duplicates.

Unless what was shown so far was placeholder it seems to be the case but like I said since uniques are so rare it would kind of suck to have just a single piece of armor and be unable to complete the set. I could see maybe doing a unique helm that isn’t part of a full set maybe. Could be a mix too. But all the Uniques I have seen so far were Necromancer sets and since that is what I paid the most attention to in beta I recognized the art on all of them as existing legendary art. Maybe some will have new art and others won’t though.

interesting if that’s how it works, i do think uniques should have their own appearance though, if it doesn’t match you can just transmog it, or maybe a unique appearance for each class. no other transmogs look like it but each class has a different unique (1 of) version.

Just buy it on the item store. I am sure you will be able to transmog in to your favorite furry for only 10$. This will include clown hat, pirate boots, leprechaun jacket and seasonal santa coat. Sanctuary is a dark foreboding place, so why can’t our heroes just dress like an elf and buy jingle bell emotes.

I am not too concerned about crazy cartoonish or bright transmogs. At least not for the near future.

Interesting that so far the armor Uniques are based on existing legendary skins (I would assume a recolor of them. I didn’t check). The one weapon I got though has a Unique skin from what I can tell and salvaging it to make it a transmog is not an option. I can hide it with a transmog though if I want to.

Anyway as I suspected having to salvage items to be able to transmog them is not a big deal. It is pretty fast collecting all the items. If you are struggling getting all the legendary ones and it gets too expensive to make them on your high level main you can make an alt and make a bunch of cheap ones with aspects.
